“ Brand: Kong / Type: Dog Toy „
When we decided to have another new addition to the house in the form of a golden Labrador puppy I realised that all of our previous dog toys have either been destroyed or were on the verge on needing to be thrown out. Of course this gave me great pleasure in shopping for the new addition making sure she was going to have an ample supply of toys to keep her entertained and happy. I of course know that the chances are and were she was going to be far more interested in my daughter's toys and anything other than her own but the excitement of having a new puppy took over my practical side!
My other dog has been showered with Kong toys since he was a puppy and I have always been impressed with how durable they can be especially with a dog who certainly likes to hunt and then try and kill his toys. So my first port of call was Kong, they are a brand known for their tough and durable toys and are very widely available in pet shops and online so it wasn't hard to pick up a few new toys for our new addition! Kong like a lot of brands have varying ranges and collections which of course include specific toys for puppies and for older dogs which is quite nice. We bought various toys including the Kong Wubba Friends in the rabbit variety.
When my other dog was a puppy the Kong range was rather limited so it's nice to see the range has expanded so much! The Kong Wubba Friends is from the 'Wubba' range and is the same design as the standard Kong Wubba (the larger Kong toy with the three fabric tails) but is covered in plush fabric. The Wubba Friends range consists of a fox, rabbit and bear - we opted for the rabbit simply because I thought it was the cutest but really not ideal for a Labrador considering they are a working dog! The rabbit is grey in colour which features little ears, nose and eyes and does look quite sweet.
Kong Wubba Friends are ideal for games such as tug (although shouldn't be played with a puppy due to their teeth) and fetch which is the main reason we bought this toy as we wanted her to learn the retrieve command from an early age. The floppy tail makes it ideal for her to carry it around especially as the tail is long enough for her to get her mouth around it and it is soft enough for her teeth to hold. The long tails also make it easy to throw so ideal for both the owner and the dog. Because the toy is incredibly soft it is ideal for both indoor and outdoor use but I've noticed she much prefers to play with the toy outside as she has far more room to throw herself around when retrieving it!
The Kong Wubba Friends also features a squeaker which is added for enjoyment. However, my dog hasn't yet realised the squeaker is there and she doesn't really bite hard enough (now 6 months) to make it squeak although my older dog certainly makes up for her not doing so! Because the plush material is so soft it is ideal for a night time comforter for puppies and I did put our pup's in her crate with her at night and several times I found her sleeping with her head on it but if she was without it, it made no difference whatsoever. But I guess it would be far more suitable if you before you had brought your puppy home to buy one and leave it with the mother for a few weeks (if the breeder allowed) as then at least when she/he comes home they can small their mum on it rather than having a horrible bit of bedding to bring home.
My puppy who at 6 months has had a few months of enjoyment out of her Wubba Friend and as I write this it is currently in her crate being sat on! Generally if I find her playing out in the garden this toy won't be far away and is generally a toy that gets played with the most and of course I don't have to worry about her delicate puppy teeth as it is so gentle. The only thing which always happens with plush toys is that once they get wet they tend to look a bit dishevelled and not as soft and cuddly as new but this is expected but it does make for a sorry for itself looking rabbit! Kong do advise that this toy isn't designed for chew sessions so may not be the most suitable toy for those that just want to chew and chew on their toys.
Overall, a cute looking toy which is definitely getting use by the new addition. However, the fact that she will probably grow up wanting more durable toys I don't think this would last too long but for now as a puppy it is incredibly suitable and she seems to enjoy playing with it and that at the end of the day is all that matters. Despite not being in the Kong puppy range I have no worries that it isn't gentle enough for her teeth. Definitely a toy to be considered for puppies and older dogs who just need something gentle rather than something tougher. A great recommendation from me and my pup.

I love my four dogs to absolute bits and as a result I can't help but treat them to new bits and bobs pretty much every week! Amazon is one of my favourite places to buy my dogs' treats and toys, and I came across this toy, the Kong Wubba Friends when I was browsing the dog toy section of Amazon last August. This toy mainly appealed to me because it's designed to be like a teddy - my dogs (like most dogs) are teddy mad, and this is simply a soft toy with a squeaky ball inside. The toy is covered in soft, good quality plush faux fur which my dogs love. Kong (the manufacturers of the toy) describe it as being the ultimate comfort dog toy.
There are three different designs to choose from - a fox, a rabbit or a bear. I bought this from a seller who didn't give me an option of choosing which one I would like and I got a fox, which is very cute - it's a nice pale brown colour with a hint of reddish ginger, it has cute little ears and white fur around its mouth and neck area and it is obvious from looking at it that it's a fox.
I paid £8.65 for this toy including postage and the RRP is £9.48. I've seen it in various pet shops and it's ofcourse available on plenty of websites such as Amazon, eBay, PetPlanet etc. There are four sizes to choose from - small, medium, large and extra large. I have this in extra large as my dogs are all of a large breed apart from one and I doubt that the small one would last very long with my dogs, however if you have a dog such as a yorkie then a small would be plenty big enough.
My XL one measures 14 x 14 x 50.8 cm and according to Amazon weighs 91 grams. It did have a little bit of weight to it when I first got it due to the ball inside but all of my dogs could easily carry it and fit it in their mouths without hurting their jaws.
The toy has a round body with the words kong wubba stitched onto it along with a cute red heart. The body is squeeky due to the large squeeky ball inside. The sqeek is high pitched and very annoying after a while, it's also loud and so I don't let the dogs outside with it when it's night time as it'd definetly wake the neighbors up. My dogs love the squeeky ball and although it's no longer actually inside the toy (they ripped it out) the still play with it everyday and haven't ripped it up or broken it as it's so durable - it's made from thick rubber. The toy has dangly octopus type dangly legs, there are four of these which my dogs enjoy playing with and it gives them all something to grab onto with their mouths when playing tug of war.
The toy also has plastic beads for the eyes, which I found a little concerning as it could definetly be a choking hazzard. Since purchasing this toy the eyes have been ripped out of poor foxy's head, however luckily I spotted them and picked them up before my dogs could get them in their mouths. My dogs are very powerful and can usually tear a toy in half within minutes, however this toy is incredibly durable. It has lasted incredibly well and it is still in almost in one piece even after seven months. It took around 5 months before the ball (which acted as the toys body) got ripped out of the toy, and the ball itself is very durable and it is in one piece and still works.
The eyes as I said have been ripped off, but the ears, nose and all the dangly 'arm' things are still attatched. The stuffing is all gone too (from the head) but there wasn't much so it didn't make a huge amount of mess. The toy now is just like a limp bit of material with dangly things attatched but my dogs still play with it. Their favourite game is to play tug of war with it and it's very durable, it has small rips here and there but all in all it is in reasonable condition considering how long we've had it!
This is an extremely durable toy and it's the longest lasting soft toy that any of my dogs have ever had. They love it to bits - Pip in particular adores it and often takes it to bed with her and puts her nose inside. We've got a nickname in our house for this toy which is Foxy Loxy, as soon as we say it the dogs ears pick up and they come running over wanting to play tug of war or wanting me to throw it. I will certianly be purchasing another one!
The only downside that I can think of is that it holds smells and dirt due to the fluffy design of it, however it's been in the washing machine several times and came out fine. We make sure that the dogs keep it inside as it does get smelly easily, but this is the only disadvantage that I can think of and I give it 5/5 stars.
