The Kong Flyer is a rubber version of a frisbee and will provide hours of fun for any dog that likes to chase and fetch. It's made from the Kong classic rubber which is incredibly tough and durable. it comes in two sizes, 18cm and 24cm.
I bought a Kong Flyer several years ago and it's still in very good condition although it's pretty dirty from having so much use. My highly destructive border collie loves it and it's one of her favourite toys. Although the manufacturers say that it's not a tuggy toy I have used it to play tuggy on many occasions. Sasha has chewed the Kong and generally beaten it up and yet it's still in excellent shape.
The Kong Flyer has outlasted all the other frisbees we've bought many times over. It flies really well and you don't need a strong arm to throw the toy. It's great fun and safe for your dog and will provide hours of excercise.
About the size of a regular frisbee, this red, rubbery disc flies fairly well considering its material. Its quite heavy but that makes it a much more sturdier toy and even sharp claws and teeth can't shred it to pieces. A perfect circle, with a small rim around it to fly better and slowly plummet to the ground. It also has little embossed pictures of Kong's very own 'Worlds Best Dog Toy' - three orbed treat dispenser. Its clear its part of an ongoing theme as both the toys are the same materials and colour so its a tried and tested rubber thats safe for your pets and strong for long lasting entertainment. My dog, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, loves this thing, so much so he won't bring it back.. yeah he's not really learnt that game yet.. You can use it as pull toy too, let your dog tug away while you hold the end as it folds up and makes for some interesting games. My dog can't really keep up with ordinary plastic frisbee's let alone this one since he's mostly muscle, but if you have an agile dog who can catch the thing in the air, you won't need to worry about hitting them or passers by as it'll just bounce of them.
We purchased this tough toy in a Pet City store for £3.99. A bit expensive for a lump of rubber, but since it lasts a while and works as a frisbee, its worth it in the end.
Unlike all the other Frisbees I've tried, this one has lasted and lasted. It hasn't cracked or splintered at all. My dog, Tess, has sharp teeth and likes to tug on the Flyer sometimes so I was surprised that it didn't tear. I've had the same Kong Flyer for the past two years and it's only just got a small tear in it. I'm buying Tess another one to replace it because I can't imagine any other Frisbee being this good.
It's strong but it's also soft so Tess's gums don't start to bleed after repeated use. Tess is very happy to leap high in the air to catch this so it must be comfortable for her to play with.
They're more expensive than usual Frisbees but it's definitely worth it as it lasts a lot longer.
It flies excellently, I don't have much of a throwing arm and even I can make this one fly! The Kong Flyer is a bit heavier than normal Frisbees so it still flies quite well even if it's a bit windy.
Sand seems to stick to it more than other toys but it's easily cleaned.
My only warning is: it doesn't float so don't throw it too far into the sea or a river unless your dog likes to dive! I learnt this the hard way and had to wade into the sea to fetch it back myself!
This product is great-we purchased our second one yesterday after the first one met an untimely end at the bottom of a very deep river..oops!
It costs £7.99 from pets at home and is made from the same kind of red coloured rubber as the well known kong toys, however it does state on the packaging that it is not as strong as the ordinary toys and shouldnt be left as a chew toy (Our border collie managed to chew the edge off hers in 10 minutes flat when she got it off the shelf) It still flew though!
An excellent toy for walks in open areas it flies a long way with little effort and is light enough for the dog to catch without knocking their teeth out.
It is also useful as a makeshift drinking bowl on a hot day, just take a bottle of water with you and pour a bit into the upturned frisbee.
Take care of it and this toy will last you many years-just stay away from deep rivers!
