Kong Wobbler Snack Ball
Advantages: Stimulation for dogs, good value, great idea, robust.
Whoever invented Kong toys is an absolute genius in my book - this range of toys keeps dogs occupied, stimulated and happy - and prevents them from chewing things they shouldn't when they get bored. We have two cavachon puppies in the family (still puppies to me despite being about 18 months old). Cavachons (for those of you wondering) are Bichon Frise crossed with Cavalier King Charles spaniels and they are adorable. Except for when they start stripping wallpaper and chewing the bottom of your kitchen cupboards.
Anyway - Kong toys come in a range of shapes and sizes and the general premise is that there will be a small hole at one end or the other which you stuff dog treats into and then you let the dog play with the toy to figure out how to get the treats out. It will amaze you how quickly the dogs will work out what they are meant to do and figure out methods to free the titbits!
The ones we use are for the small breed varieties - ours do not come apart like the one in the photo, they just have a small hole at one end but other than that are the same ribbed shape as the one above. The Kong is always made of rubber and they bounce all over the place if you (or the dog) drops them which serves two purposes - firstly it means it keeps the dog concentrating and secondly it occasionally means a treat will fly out in the process. One of our two has sussed this and regularly launches it across the room.
It is a joy to watch dogs playing with these toys and it makes you realise just how very smart dogs can be - we always fill both of their toys with treats before heading out as we know it will keep them busy for a good hour or so before they start to wonder where we are.
The prices of this product vary dependent on size - the small breed ones we buy are around the £5.99 mark and I buy them from Pets at Home - occasionally they have deals on these toys and there is a wide variety available (you can also get them from Amazon and various online retailers). For the amount of play and stimulation you will get out of these for your dogs they really are a fabulous item and one which any dog owner should try out.
Summary: A fab item for keeping canines amused!
