Expensive wipes that may be good for outdoor cats but not so much for indoor ones.

I picked these grooming wipes up at pets at home on a whim when I was in buying some other things. I'm not sure why I bothered as my cat is always grooming himself but I thought it wouldn't hurt to make sure he was looking extra clean and besides the cat on the front of the packet reminded me of my cat. I liked the idea of buying some wipes as occasionally my cat can look a little scruffy and as he hates to be brushed etc. I thought these would be a good way of stealth grooming him.

The wipes come in a pack containing only 10 wipes which for the money isn't really a lot. They cost £3 and are contained in a packed similar to what baby wipe come in which can be resealed to keep them moist.
You can see the quality of the wipes in the material used as they are thick and with them being woven they are nice and strong and not really easy to tear and rip.

As soon as you open the wipes you notice a nice subtle smell which is like baby powder. I wasn't sure that I would like my cat smelling of baby powder but once it is on his coat the smell isn't as powdery sweet and it leaves his coat smelling more fresh than just masking any smells with the baby powder smell.

The woven fabric that the wipes are made up of is supposed to trap loose hairs and dirt in it and for this it definitely did do its job. My cat is short haired but constantly casting so there is always a lot of loose hair no matter how much I try to get rid of it every day. The wipes really did get a lot of the hair and it did stick to the wipes but there was so much that one wipe just wasn't enough and I needed to brush him after using the wipes.

The wipes contain something called byotrol which is supposed to coat the fur and reduce odour from your cat. Now I never really noticed my cat smelling in the first place so I can't comment on if it works or not but I suppose it is a good idea for any pets that do smell.

I thought that these wipes were a bit of a waste of money for me personally as I don't think my cat actually needed them but I did like them and the idea behind them is good. They were really easy to use and the whole process of using them on my cat only took seconds. They did leave him smelling nice and fresh and got rid of loose hairs. For an outdoor cat I think these would be great but for an indoor cat like mine I think it would probably be best to save the money and let your cat continue to clean himself.

Pets at Home Grooming Wipes - Grooming Wipes with Byotrol for small pets

Pet's At Home offer a range of grooming wipes for cats, dogs and small pets. It is these wipes for small pets that I bought for my guinea pigs. Sadly, my husband is a bit allergic to my little furry friends and I try to keep them as clean as possible for everyone's benefit.

In the past I have washed my little guinea pigs with guinea pig shampoo and although they didn't like it they did tolerate it. However, I always felt a tad mean doing it to them and although they looked awfully cute all wrapped up in a towel sitting on my knee I did want an easier solution. One day while wandering around the pet store that is exactly what I found, in the form of these grooming wipes.

Using these wipes is really straight forward, get the wipe out and ready, scoop up a guinea pig and off you go. I try and do their body first and then concentrate on the paws, before they lose all patients and want to be free to run around.

These grooming wipes claim to contain Bytrol which I had never heard of before so I did a quick Google search and found out that -"Byotrol delivers what no current technology can do; broad spectrum, long lasting, anti microbial control in a much safer and more caring way than was ever believed possible. We describe it as the silicon chip moment for hygiene." (www.byotrol.co.uk). In these wipes it is used as an anti-bacterial and anti-fungal solution, proven by vets to help reduce the odour of little animals while keeping them clean and healthy.

They do have a mild but pleasant smell to them, which you can smell on the guinea pigs for a short time after use. These wipes are also quite wet but not overly so, a bit like most baby wipes. Overall, they do make their fur shiner and healthier looking.

I bought these from Pet's At Home for £2.19 for a packet of 20. These do last for quite a while even using one wipe per guinea pig. I don't like to use them too often because I don't want to take away too much of any natural oils protecting their hair. A packet usual lasts around four months and although it does have an re-seal bit I tend to put these in a Tupperware box just to be certain that they won't dry up.

These wipes are really useful and while one guinea pig likes it and the other merely tolerates it, I like the results that I get with these. Overall, I have been very pleased with these wipes and I think that they are an easier and less stressful method the keep my piglets clean and happy. These grooming wipes get a four out of five stars from all of us.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

A good product, but price is an issue

Having had a good deal of success using Mikki grooming wipes on our cats and reviewed them, I thought it was a good idea to also review the Pets at Home Grooming Wipes which we have used. They were not on the Dooyoo product list but as its nice to be able to compare and contrast products, I am now able to do so as they were added here today.

When comparing these wipes to the Mikki Wipes, I feel that whilst these are a slightly nicer wipe in terms of texture, they are more expensive to buy and so they need to work hard to earn their keep. We found the Pets at Home Grooming Wipes easy to use with our cats, but as they work out at £2.99 per pack of 10 (unless you use the offer thats on right now which is 2 packs for £4) they are not at all cheap.

      **********************************************************
This basic price means that each cat grooming wipe works out at roughly 30p if bought at the usual price, or 20p per wipe if bought as part of the promotional offer. I find this to be far too high a cost, as with 2 cats we need 2 wipes as a minimum each time. When compared to the possible 70 wipes you get with the Mikki wipes, these wipes seem very pricey indeed.

In terms of what you get for your pennies, you get a simple plastic pack which contains 10 Pets at Home Grooming Wipes which are of a good size and are reasonably soft and yet durable in use. The wipes can be re-sealed within the pack which keeps them fresh for their next use. We have found that the wipes don't rip or tear easily. The idea of using grooming wipes is one that suits our cats as they are not very keen on water at all and so we only bathe them when 100% necessary, so as not to cause stress or upset.

      **********************************************************
In use we have found that the Pets at Home Grooming Wipes can help to keep our cats looking neat and tidy with an enhanced sheen to their coats. Using this type of grooming wipe adds a certain amount of gloss to the coats of our cats when combined with their normal grooming regime. The wipes can also reduce tangles and the incidences of unwanted fur balls can be reduced too.

Our cats are used to being groomed and pampered so they don't mind the use of these types of products, but I have to say that not all cats will be as keen to use this type of product. Its wise to see how your cats react to the feeling of having a light rub down with the wipes prior to buying lots, just in case they protest.

      **********************************************************
Its also wise to do a paw test prior to using the wipes all over a few days before you use the wipes all over you cats main body, tail, paws etc. Although the Pets at Home Grooming Wipes are a specially formulated cat friendly wipe, some cats can be sensitive to the ingredients within this type of product, so its better to see how your pet reacts and if everything is fine then continue to use the wipes as directed.

The wipes are very lightly scented. We have found the scent is very pleasant and mimics the powder type products used for babies. Its a nice soft scent when used on our cats fur and they don't really seem to either like or dislike it one way or the other. The wipes do contain Byotrol which is an anti microbial additive that stops the build up of harmful bacteria. If you cat has never been in contact with this, then I would certainly advise you do the paw test.

      **********************************************************
To sum up these Pets at Home Grooming Wipes I have to say we have found them to be a nice product that works well. The only real down side has to be the price. Its a shame really especially when the small animal wipes from the same range cost just over £2 and although smaller in size, each pack gives you 20 wipes.

In spite of the price issues we may choose to use these again as the results are good and the wipes are easy to use. Overall bearing in mind price and results I think these deserve 4 stars. I would recommend them but only when they are an offer or deal, so as to keep costs down.
