Advantages: Great for teeth and exercise

Disadvantages: Bits can fray off leaving a little mess but not much

We have had our dog for around 12 months now and obviously we got quite excited when we first brought her and purchased a rather unnecessary amount of toys. One item that was her favourite and still plays with to this day was her rope toy.

Rope toys are basically a thick piece of coloured rope with two lots of loose tassel parts at each end and your dog grabs hold of the one end whilst you get hold of the other end and you both pull. I have found that my dog loves this toy and it is really good for their teeth too as she won't let go of her grip so the toy will be strengthening her teeth as she pulls.

These toys are available in different colours and sizes and are available from all pet stores and you can even get them in the pound shop, they are that cheap. If purchasing from a pet store they are generally around £1.99 to £3.99 depending on the length etc you purchase.

These toys are great and can keep a dog amused for ages, both as a game with the owner or on their own as my dog is perfectly happy to just keep tossing her about and catching it. It is also a useful toy to take with you when walking the dog as it can be used during a game of 'fetch'.

If your dog is a strong dog that likes chewing things up, I would recommend having this style of toy over a plastic one as I have found my dog chews plastic toys to pieces within hours of receiving it, whereas her rope toys have lasted a great deal longer and create far less in the way of mess as you don't tend to get bits all over the floor.

You do get a few bits of rope fray and come away from the main toy, but this is very irregular and so you don't end up picking bits up all the time. If it becomes dirty and muddy, its fine to just place in the washing machine too so you won't end up with dirt all over your house.

Overall my dog loves her little rope toys and we will be sticking to purchasing these for her in the future as they have far more longevity than plastic squeaky toys do with her. They help to strengthen her teeth and are also a useful way to encourage exercise as well as being fun. They don't fall apart easily, are easily cleaned and are fun for your dog to play with. They are small too so don't take up any room in the home.

For the price you pay, you are getting a bargain dogs toy with these. If you are one who generally sticks with squeaky toys, then I would recommend you try rope toys as I have found them far more useful with our dog than novelty toys. Recommended.

Summary: A great toy which your dog will love
