Playful Pets Hi-Visibility Safety Flasher


I have an adorable although mischievous black labradoodle and he is all black, which makes him a nightmare to try and keep an eye on at night time. We have a rather large back garden which is very dark, even when I put the exterior lights on the very back of the garden is pitch black and of course that is where the pup always goes to do his late night pees. He is getting a bit older now so I have been giving him a bit more independence and not stalking him wherever he goes outside, but I still like to be able to see him. It's not the first time I have gotten a bit frantic that he has disappeared only to see him peeping from behind the summer house or underneath the hedging.


When this arrived with the mail and I opened it I was initially a bit disappointed at how small and a bit tacky that it looked. I realised that this wasn't an expensive purchase, but nevertheless I was expecting more than what I got. This safety light is essentially a small metal casing with LED lights at the bottom and a clip, overall it is very small and when next to my large breed puppy it looks absolutely tiny.


To turn this on after you have put the batteries in is simple just turn and let the flashing begin. It flashes, blue, red and a white light. However, after a couple of days use the blue stopped working so ours only flashes white and red. You are meant to clip this to the loop on your dog's collar and when he is in the dark it should make him easy to spot. It is not meant to provide much light so won't act as a torch but it is meant to make locating him in the dark, quicker, easier and all around less stressful.


I would be surprised if this lasts a month, so far we have been using it for a week and it hasn't impressed. You are meant to be able to see this light for up to 100 meters, however, I struggle to see it only a few meters away. Due to the device being so small in comparison to my pup his hair seems to swamp it and block out the light.


I bought this from Amazon for £2.85, which is very cheap but then you are getting a very cheap product. I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone and it really hasn't done the job I bought it for.


Sadly, this isn't the best example of these safety flashers that are available. I think that this barely deserves a two out of five stars. This is a great idea but it is just badly executed.
