Advantages: Soft, Two sqeakers, Kept her entertained, Good idea for disruptive dogs, Nice Concept, Lasted well
Disadvantages: Lack of fluff seemed to put her off, Doesn't look as life like as advertised.
I am, and have been for the past ten years, the very proud and happy owner of a female Shar-pei called Coco. She is my constant companion and has been a pretty big part of my life so I love treating her to a new toy or treat when I can.
Whilst on holiday last year I was in a pet shop looking for something to buy as a holiday present for Coco (had bought all my human friends something so of course I had to make sure my doggie companion had something as well) and saw the 'Skinneeez Stuffing Free Dog Toy'. Although she isn't a problem dog when it comes to breaking her toys I liked the concept of the Skinneeez toys and thought it would be nice to get her something different than the normal stuffed squeaky bears. I can't recall how much I payed for this now but looking on the Internet it seems to range from around £4 to £8, which isn't a terrible price.
Taking it home to her it was greeted with the normal inquisitive sniffs and eventually was used as her new toy, running around the house with it in her mouth playing tug of war with whoever she could find to play with her. She seemed to like it but I think the lack of stuffing was actually missed as there was less to hold onto and made it a little lifeless when she was chewing on it. It has two squeakers: one just under the head and one much lower down the body. This was brilliant for her as she loves the sound of a squeaker and it is amazing to see how long she can sit there totally fixated on this high pitched notice, this feature wasn't as welcomed by the human members of the houshold.
As in the picture I bought the fox version which admittedly as Teddy's/ toys go it was a fairly life like. It is, however, also available in a variety of other woodland and wild characters including the rabbit and raccoon. It was that sort of orange/ browny color we stereotypically see foxes as, had little dark brown feet and a face that I personally found kind of scary as the eyes were quite wide. I defiantly wouldn't call this toy life like especially to my dog who didn't seem to be any more fooled by this teddy than she had her M&M bear.
It was quite soft and the material it was made out of was quite nice, this didn't really seem to another Coco though.
As for how long it lasted: she has had it almost 7 months now and although she is far from an obsessive player and may not even touch her Skineeez for weeks it is still in a very good condition and has even survived a ride in the washing machine and came out looking a lot nicer. I'm still slightly sad though that even now I haven't been able to fully get the sticker that comes attached to it off as it appears to literally be fully stuck onto the fur. It does seem relatively well made and for anyone worried about their dog ingesting Teddy fluff I'm sure it would take away that worry as the whole concept is based around it's lack of fluff. Regardless it's still best to watch them when they are playing with it as I can still imagine some dogs would find the fox skin as a tasty treat if they ripped it down to edible pieces.
Overall I still like this toy but think I'll stick to the fluffed varieties as Coco hasn't had any problems with eating fluff and this isn't really something I worry about when I'm buying her toys. It is a nice idea and a great addition for a toy lover so can't help but destroy their new friend. It has kept Coco entertained for a fair few hours over the last couple of months and that is good enough for me.
Summary: It is a nice idea and a great addition for a toy lover so can't help but destroy their new friend.
