I have a very hyper-active labrador x lurcher and have recently started flyball classes which involve my dog jumping 4 hurdles and retrieving a ball at a fast speed. She absolutely loves it and I love how much of her energy it burns up, so we can have a peaceful night! However, my dog and other dogs love it so much that they sit edging forward dying to run and I found holding her collar wasn't a great thing as it was pulling too much on her neck, so i decided to follow my fellow fun flyballers and purchases a doggy harness purely for flyball.
I opted for Snugglepets fleece harness as the fleece feels lovely and soft so it wouldn;t be uncomfortable or painful for my dog to wear even if she was pulling. Also the fleece material comes in a wide range of colours. I opted for the purple colour which is a nice deep pretty shade.
With having such a large but slim dog I tried on a friends harness first and opted for a size 4, and also a size 2 for out more rounded Yorky. It is really easy to put on, you simply slip the main loop over your dogs head then take each strap under the leg and clip it in. The fasteners make it really easy to clip on and off. There is even a hoop so you can attach a name tag.
My yorky wears his harness for walks too, not because he pulls, but because Yorkies have inherited breathing issues because of a squashed gullet, so this is great to use with a lead as it removes all pressure from the throat.
My size 2 harness cost £15 and the size 4 £19 which are a fair price but the quality is really good so i imagine they will last for years. I purchased mine from www.snugglepets.co.uk which costs £5 to deliver. Delivery took 7 days which isn't the fastest.
I'm impressed by the quality, easiness of use and feel it is a must have for any one who does agility or flyball or wants to relieve pressure from your dogs neck. It's available in a range of sizes and colours and you can buy the matching lead and collar too.
