Trixie Multicoloured Play Rope
Advantages: Cheap and a variety of sizes
Disadvantages: Won't last for big chewers
Apart from having a young 6 month puppy to buy toys for I also have a rather lovely 4 year old dog who of course needs showering with gifts. Yes, both are very spoilt and why shouldn't they be? They are firm members of the family and are treated as such (although they cannot be upstairs or on the sofas!). Every time I enter a pet store the chances are I will come away with not just what I wanted but various other things such as treats, varying bones and of course toys. Both my dogs love toys and for me I'd rather them love toys than love my toys so they have quite a large collection in order to keep them fully satisfied and can leave anything else non-doggy alone.
Zooplus is a favourite website of mine as I can generally find everything I want on one website and they seem pretty reasonable with their prices as well as having a very wide and varied selection of items (not just for dogs) I end up getting a few good bargains. Zooplus stock a wide range of Trixie dog related items ranging from toys to leads. Trixie do have decently priced dog toys, they don't break the bank and there tends to be a very good selection to choose from. Now Trixie isn't my first choice for toys as I tend to opt for Kong but as they are cheap they make good little extras to buy when buying other products - generally to push the postage and packaging charges to free!
One item I have bought several times is the Trixie Multicoloured Play Rope simply because it is cheap and keeps my dogs very well occupied. The multi-coloured rope is not unusual in the dog toy world there are a wide variety of makes, sizes and colours so this isn't exactly a world beating idea by Trixie but it serves a purpose. The toy is designed to help an owner play with their dog. It is designed for your dog to test its strength as you will hold onto one end and the dog will be on the other end pulling and tugging away. An easy toy to keep your dog entertained, it doesn't squeak or make noises it just offers a good old tug of war.
To look at the multi-coloured play rope is made up of natural cotton fibres which come in a variety of colours - chances are you won't find two exactly the same and if you order online you don't get a colour choice, same at a pet store they come in a wide variety of colours. The rope is knotted at both ends to resemble a similar shape to a bone and of course if playing tug of work you have something to hold onto. Now depending on the size of the rope you buy there are more knots or 'bones' as the website says in the toy itself. The rope toy's smallest size is 20cm and goes up to 54cm so depending on the size of your dog you will need to buy the appropriate size. I myself buy the 37cm length which has two extra knots in as well as the two at the ends and I have two large breed dogs.
Both my dogs love playing with this toy but I try to limit what I do with the puppy as her teeth are not as strong to play tug of war with this toy as despite being made of cotton fibres which are themselves very soft when they are tightly packed and woven together it is quite a tough toy so unfortunately for her this toy tends to be belong to my older dog who can with stand it being pulled and tugged. My older dogs loves nothing more than carrying this toy off and flinging it around the garden whilst part of it is repeatedly hitting him over the head which he doesn't seem to mind at all. If he wants to play tug of war he will carry the toy over to me and will quite happily show off his strength. I also find it is a great toy to play go fetch as it is long enough to get a firm grip to throw it and of course it is then easily to rescue from the jaws of my dog.
Because of its natural cotton fibre composition it doesn't last that particularly long especially with a dog who takes such a keen liking to it and is generally played with on a daily basis. After a while the colours start to go dull, the fibres start to spilt and overall it does start to look quite tatty but then I wasn't expecting it to stay pristine. One of the rope toys I did have ended up becoming unknotted due to being so worn that the whole thing fell apart into a load of dirty coloured fibres on my kitchen floor to the bemusement of my dog. Thing is they don't cost the earth and are easily replaceable and I know my dog enjoys playing with it. Because of having the cotton fibres it also helps clean the teeth and gums which for me is a big plus so for the sake of having to buy a new one every 2 months or so I really can't complain.
Despite this not being the most durable toy I really can't moan that much as both my dogs seem to enjoy playing it is and it is constantly around in the house, it has never been a toy which has been bought and then ignored. It is a toy that is played with all the time whether they just want to chew on it or play tug of war. I have no complaints about it. It does the job it was intended for. However, I wouldn't recommend it for dogs that completely destroy their toys as it would last a matter of minutes as being made from cotton it won't be that durable. However, for dogs that simply like to chew their toys and play with them then it is definitely a cheap but good buy. I'm giving this 4 stars, knocking 1 star off simply due to the overall durability of it.
