Trixie Dog Harness
I'm sure most pet owners would agree with me that different dogs require different walking aids. I own two dogs, a large labradoodle and a small toy Poodle and have found from experience that what works for one certainly doesn't always work for the other. It goes without saying that smaller dogs have a smaller neck and I personally never felt comfortable walking my toy Poodle on a leash with a collar only, which led me down the path of a suitable doggie harnesses.
The Trixie premium harness itself is made out of a rather tough fabric that really does show little wear and tear despite constant use. It also has three buckles that allow you to tailor the harness to the exact size of your dog, allowing you to make sure that you have a good tight but not restrictive fit. After you have put it on a few times it becomes almost second nature and you don't have to keep checking that you've put it on the right way round. After a bit of persistence I even have my dog trained to lift his front legs just as I need them to step himself into his harness, making it even easier and faster to use. I always take his readiness to put on the harness as a sign that he obviously doesn't mind it. When your dog or pup is all secure then all you have to do is clip the leash to the protruding rings and off you go. It really is an easy and straight forward harness to use.
Unlike the black example of the Trixie dog harness that Dooyoo has chosen to feature it does come in a range of colours, we have one in a green khaki colour with a military design and a blue harness with a paw print pattern. It's nice to have a bit of variety even thou I seriously doubt my dog would care.
Having the muckiest toy Poodle alive I have had to throw the harness in the washing machine more than once, I just chuck it in with the dog towels and some washing liquid and hey presto the harness looks back to some level of normal.
So far we have had two of these the first one is over a year and a half old and still in constant use and the second is only over a couple months old so these harness are still readably available. I always like to have at least two on the go because it's nice to always have a back up instead of running around hunting for the harness if it's been placed in the wrong place.
Would I recommend the Trixie dog Harness to other dog owners? Yes and no. Let me explain.
As I mentioned earlier all dogs are different and what works for some won't necessarily work for others, but if you think a harness would be suitable then I can certainly recommend the Trixie dog harness. With my larger labradoodle a harness wouldn't be the best idea, I think it might even encourage him to pull. He can be prone to pulling a little bit when he's on a short leash and as such he wears a halti, I think he would definitely have the possibility of dragging me off my feet with just a harness, if the mood took him. Therefore, I believe that the use of a harness comes down to the individual dog and what the owners think is best.
I have bought both of my Trixie harnesses from my local independent pet store - one of my favourite shops to shop in. And the harnesses for my size required (small) have been around £10 making them excellent value for money. Just as a side note the Trixie dog harness is available in a range of sizes, just measure your dog then choose the correct size or better yet if your pet store allows it take your dog into try on the harnesses on then you will be sure to get the best possible fit.
Even when we have come home from our walk if I am distracted by the phone or just in a rush to get on with something else if I have to leave the harness on for a little longer it doesn't seem to bother my dog. He will quite happily get cosy on his bed or sprawled out on his blanket without even the slightest care about still wearing the harness. Therefore, I would be surprised if he found it uncomfortable to wear, he definitely has never acted like it has been.
I'm not sure there is much else to say about the Trixie dog harness other than it works well for me and my toy Poddle and it gives me peace of mind that his neck is being protected and he is securely attached to his leash.
Overall, I have been really happy with the Trixie dog harness and it's stayed in good condition despite being constantly used and dragged through more than a few mucky fields and puddles.
The Trixie Dog harness definitely gets five out of five stars from me and my Poodle.
This is one of those wonderfully simple devices that does everything it promises, and really makes a difference. My dog - like many that I know of - wasn't all that good at walking nicely on the lead, and tended to pull me along behind her. It made going up the road before we got to the fields a bit of a chore, and it made this attachment to the lead a real godsend.
This harness clips easily onto the collar and the lead, and fits around the dog's face - it shouldn't be too tight or too loose, staying on firmly enough without being constrictive. I'm not sure exactly how it works so well, but it stops the dog pulling with their powerful shoulders and encourages them to walk with you.
In all honesty, my dog wasn't a huge fan of the harness - but it didn't cause her any real discomfort, I don't think. It was quick and easy to put on, could be kept attached to the lead and could be removed without difficulty once we got to the fields.
For less than a tenner (I forget exactly how much we paid), this is a great buy - it's easy to store, easy to use, and makes a real, practical difference to walking with your dog. If you've got a truculent, strong-willed pet, you may well love this.
