Bakers Mini Bones
by xxfoxyredxx
When I bought these for my mates dog Daisy I didn't realise that she had tried them before and hadn't liked them! I bought them as they are from a well known brand and would be quality and although I'm not saying that they are not good quality (cos they do appear to be) it doesn't change the fact though that they can't be all that ... exciting or tasty for her!
The Packaging:
These come in a light blue and green plastic bag with a zipper to the top of them to help them retain their freshness and on the front of the bag there is a little picture shown of a dog and the bones and we are told that they are Purina Bakers Mini Bones 'With tasty chicken' and that they are low in flat and contain Omega 3 + 6, Vitamins and Antioxidants and then on the back of the bag other information listed includes being told a bit the product, feeding advice is given and ingredients and nutritional advice is given and the weight is stated which in this case is 125g.
The Bones:
These are about an inch long and reasonably thick and powdery to the touch slightly. They are shaped like mini bones of course and are mainly a light brown in colour with an off white coloured centre and to me they smell really horrible and really meaty...I cannot stand the weird and rich fragrance these have to them to be honest.
Now these are meant to be reasonably healthy dog treats and for a small dog we are advised to give no more than 3 of them per day, a medium sized dog, no more than 5 of them and a large dog no mmore than 8 of them and you do get about 25 of them in each bag at a rough guess.
They contain plenty of flavour if the smell is anything to go by and are meant to be enriched with vitamins and minerals...however Daisy can pick them up...she ends up spitting them out. They are easy for me to break up for her to try and tempt her with them because they are not hard buy moist made out of cereals and milk as well as a few other bits and pieces of course.
She has never eaten any of these that I have offered her sadly and now they are ready to be given to someone else with a dog or hit the bin because they cluttering up cupboard!
Not for Daisy but for around a pound a bag in all good supermarkets and pet stores, worth a go if your interested in them for your dog I guess! Read the complete review |

Bakers Maxi Chew
by daisylee3
I very rarely buy treats like this for my dogs (eg jumbones and meaty twists) as I find that they can be quite messy and not as long lasting as the usual rawhide chews that I buy but seeing as my local Poundland sells the large 300 gram ones for a pound each I thought I might as well stock up as it seemed like a good deal. I've got four ... dogs and bought eight of the chews. The chews have recently been discontinued from supermarkets as far as I know but they are available from a range of discount stores (B&M, Poundland etc) and a wide range of online retailers sell them too. I have seen them in Tesco in the past and they retailed at around £2.50 each if I remember rightly which I personally wouldn't pay.
The chews come in individual wrappers which are made from a thick plasticy type of material and the inside is foil lined to keep them fresh. The colour scheme is the usual Baker's design - blue with the red Baker's logo. The product name is written clearly on the front of the packet in yellow writing on a red background and information such as the ingredients can be found on the back of the packet. Information about the product is also written on the back with the manufacturers claiming that the chew is low fat and high in taste. The flavour of the chew is bacon and as far as I know this is the only flavour available which will be a disadvantage if you plan on buying these regularly and want to give your dog a little variety. They are best suited to large dogs. I've got three large breed dogs and a medium breed dog and they all found this chew a good size to easily carry around in their mouths.
The first thing that I noticed when I opened this was the really strong, overpowering smell. It smells like burnt smokey bacon and it made me feel quite sick to be honest! My dogs loved the smell though and before I knew it they were crowded around me waiting for their treats. The chew itself is quite average in appearence. I was expecting a rectangular solid treat like jumbones are but instead it is a weird spongey/meaty type of texture and it has twist detail all over it which I think my dogs liked as they enjoy new/different textures. My dogs snatched the treats from me which they very rarely do - they're normally pretty patient and are happy to earn their treats but I think because these smelt so strong they couldn't wait to tuck in! They all settled down and began chewing on their treats. The first thing I noticed was how quick they were all chomping through the chews but not actually eating them, instead they were just chewing them up.
The dogs were a lot more dribbly and messy than usual with these treats as well as quite loud - it sounded just like someone eating chewing gum with their mouth wide open but ten times worse and after 5 minutes the chews did actually resemble big blobs of reddish brown chewing gum and my dogs spent a good ten minutes chewing on them which was messy and kind of gross to watch and listen to. I'm pretty certain that my yellow lab swallowed most of the gunky messy ball of meaty looking stuff whole which luckily had no bad effects! Overall these are messy and stinky dog treats and even though they're only a pound I will not be re-purchasing. My dogs did like them though and the chews kept my dogs entertained for a good 15 minutes or so, so I give them two out of five stars. Read the complete review |

Bakers Mini Bones
by lexicrazy
Some of you may be aware I have a beautiful toy poodle called Daisy who I have had over a year now. She loves her treats recently my sister and family came to stay near by. My Great neice bought Daisy these as a little gift.
The packaging~
Clearly shown on the front of the packaging is the Bakers logo, with a ... picture of mini bones on the front. The treats are chicken flavour, are low in fat only containing 5%. They contain essential vitamins for your pooch. They contain omega 3 and 6. The treats also contain antioxidants that support the bodies natural defences. feeding guidelines are given. For a small dog give three treats a day. Meduim size five treats a day. Large dogs eighth treats a day. Made by purina they can be found on the web at www.purina-bakers.co.uk
Verdict~
The bones are the same size as shown on the front of the packet roughly an inch wide. The treats do actually smell of chicken they are soft to aid easy chewing. My Daisy doesn't like these she spits them out a few times before she eats them so she won't be getting any more I will be giving them to my friends dogs.
available from all good pet shops and supermarkets costing around £1.50. Read the complete review |
