“ Brand: CSJ / Food Type: Dog Food „
We have used CSJ K9 with 5 of our dogs. 2 (Springers) had intestinal problems (protein allergy and would bleed rectally on other foods). Their coats were soft and glossy and they were at the peak of health throughout their time with us. Our Great Dane lasted 13 years on CSJ K9 which we put him on after reading about it on their website. He had had 3 torsions prior to us putting him on CSJ K9 and survived the operations. Putting him on this dog food I am sure was responsible for his wonderful health until he died. His ears stopped thickening up too and the 'mini-roundabouts' were a lot more pleasant to clear up with all of them. When we got our Dogue de Bordeaux pup there was no question....he went onto CSJ K9 from day one with us. He is now 6 years old and astounds the vet with his condition every time. No one thinks he looks or acts like his age, all think he is 2-3 years old! His coat is satin soft and shiny and all over condition is fantastic. CSJ K9 doesn't bulk them up too much either. So he's not having too much weight stressing his heart and joints. So now we have another DDB and she's been on it from day one also. They both enjoy the taste and I enjoy the value and delivery to your door options when I can't get out in the car! All in all, ever time I get the chance I will recommend CSJ K9 always as a good nutritional complete food for your dog. It produces stools that are easily cleaned up and don't 'pong' as much as when they are on other foods. In fact in summer they disintegrate into a powder and are easy to sweep up or hose away.
I came across the CSJ brand whilst looking for a reasonably priced dog food which had no additives or preservatives for my very bouncy, energetic Jack Russell. I had recently been reading a lot on various dog forums about the link between bad behaviours and over excitable, hyperactive dogs and the quality of the dog food given, so when the CSJ name kept cropping up, I decided to have a look at their website.
CSJ was founded by Ceri Rundle, after Ceri and her father H.Glyn Jones had spent years searching for a affordable, top quality dog food for the dogs they breed, trained and competed with. CSJ's main ethos is that the food they make contains Real Chicken, Lamb or Salmon and that it contains no GM ingredients, no artificial colours, additives or preservatives. CSJ dog food is made in the UK in DEFRA approved sites which adhere to the most stringent quality control and traceability systems. CSJ provides energy dense nutrition with no smell.
So far so good I thought, I clicked to have a look at the products to find that they do quite a large number of food in different ranges. Before I list the different ranges it is worth mentioning that CSJ is aimed at working dogs but I think that the foods are just as good for non working dogs/breeds. Also worth mentioning is that CSJ comes in 15 kg sacks.
* CSJ Original dog food: which includes 10 different foods, ranging from the Natural Hi lost, for gundogs at £11.65 which contains 20% real chicken to the Natural Hike on, formulated for racing sled dogs so also ideal for hard working dogs, bitches in whelp or puppies at £20.95 with Salmon being the main ingredient. There is also a Natural puppy in this range at £19.05.
*CSJ Champ: CSJ Champ is the value range of dog food they do, but please don't let this put you off as it is real value for money and carries the same high standards as the more expensive foods. The Champ range includes amongst others a Little Champ, puppy pack with Little Champ!(Puppy) food, Dem Bones (25g) and a money-off voucher at £10.00 , A lower protein food called Old Champ! at £13.50, Natural Champ! Adult £10.45 and Sooper Dooper Champ! at £13.50.
*CSJ Command Performance which is the super premium, 'natural' feeds range, and is based on the requirements and feedback from some of the most experienced and successful dog handlers in the UK and overseas. This range includes amongst others CP21(salmon), which is a hypo allergenic dog food for dogs with sensitive tummies or skins at £30.10 and CP18 ( less active), for less active dogs or as part of a calorie controlled diet for overweight dogs.
CSJ also supply a range of herbal supplements for your dog ranging from Billy No Mates natural flea treatment at £13.25 to Stroppy Bitch! a natural product to help bitches with hormonal temperament problems at £13.25.
As I stated previously CSJ comes in 15 kg sacks, which can be quite large if you only have a little dog but I have found the food does last without going stale and can be stored for up to a year unopened without going off. CSJ stockists are growing rapidly so you will more than likely be able to find one not to far away, if not you are able to order from their website, with shipping costs of:
England : Wales : Scottish Lowlands-£6.85
Scottish Highlands and Islands : Northern Ireland : Isle of Man : Scilly Isles -£10.10
It does cost the same to deliver two 15kg sacks as it does one 15kg so is worth stocking up. It states delivery will be 5 working day from order despatch. I received an email telling me my order had been despatched the day after I ordered it, and it arrived 2 days later, so really quick.
I ordered the Adult champ and I have to say within a few weeks I noticed a difference in my dog who seemed a lot calmer, less hyperactive and a charming little boy compared to the hyper terror we had before. I noticed the doggy smell also vanished which I have since found out is also linked to what we feed our dogs. My dogs poops are solid and no problem to pick up at all. My dog looks forward to his meals and wolfs them down.
I cannot rate this dog food highly enough, I think it is fantastic in every aspect from the cost to the nutrition for my dog. I have spoken to several people who use different foods in the CSJ range and we all agree that it is the dogs business. Brilliant!
I had always fed my dog on a premium branded dog food, but when I got a new dog, I found this food didn't agree with her.
I looked around, and several people recommended CSJ to me. CSJ is aimed mainly at working dogs, but I believe they would have foods suitable for most dogs available. One of my dogs is mainly retired and they have food suitable for her.
I initially wrote to CSJ explaining what food my dogs were eating at the moment, and what problems I was having with it, and asked which of their foods they would recommend for my dogs. I got a very fast reply with several suggestions, and the reasons for them, and an offer of free samples to see if my dogs liked the food.
Several days later, I received 4 packets of food (CPXtra, Champ, Lamb & Rice and That'll do), plus a packet of fish skin treats as well. I fed the food to my dogs over the course of the next few days, and not only did they enjoy it, there were no tummy upsets either.
I placed an order with CSJ, and the food arrived promptly within a couple of days. Delivery is not cheap, at around £6.50, but you can get two 15kg bags of food delivered for this price, so if you have the room to store a lot of food, it doesn't work out too pricey. The dog food does only come in 15kg bags, which could be a down side for some people with limited space.
The food itself seems good quality, and available in many flavours, with all the ingredients listed for the more expensive brands, and it also has extras like herbs and oils in it to help improve your dog's health. The protein contents of the foods are all listed, so it is easy to work out which foods might be suitable for your dog (dogs doing more work need more protein). CSJ also works out at around half the price of the dog food I used to buy. There is no difference to the condition of my older dog, buy my younger one has better digestion and her coat is a lot shinier since I started using CSJ.
I have found the CSJ website easy to use. The menu on the left hand side makes it easy to navigate and the food is arranged by category which makes it easy to find what you need. The customer service is also excellent so if you need any advice or have any questions it is easy to get the answers. You can save previous orders on your account, so it is easy to reorder the same products again and again.
CSJ also run a loyalty scheme. You can get 1 "paw point", worth 1p, for every pound you spend there (and you can get extra points for referring a friend or writing a review) and use these to get discount off your order.
CSJ also sell food for cats, and books and videos on dog training.
I will continue to use CSJ in the future, as I have found it to be a great food for my dogs.
