Cup Cake Magic Milk Bottle
by jazzypinkpuppet
Since Christmas I have been looking after my gorgeous nearly three year old God daughter for two days a week whilst her mum goes to work. As my youngest child is nearly nine and a boy, I didn't really have much for her to play with and so she was arriving with bags of stuff each time she came. I decided to buy her some bits to stay at ... my house and save all the hassle of packing up a bag of toys.
Off I went to Early Learning Centre in search of some toys that were both reasonable, good quality and most importantly that she would enjoy playing with.
Her favourite things are her 'babies', so a dolly was first on my list, I found 'Cupcake Bath time Bella' she was so cute so I bought her and I also bought this 'cupcake magic milk bottle'.
To be honest I bought the bottle for my sake really, I absolutely loved these when I was a child, I remember I used to have one with milk and and one with orange and I would spend ages feeding my baby doll Rose, trying to work out where the milk actually went.
The bottle is made of a thick acrylic plastic, it has a white liquid in it that really resembles milk. When you tip the bottle upside down the 'Milk' disappears. When the bottle is returned upright the 'milk' magically reappears.
The bottle appears to have a pink screw top lid, but it doesn't actually unscrew, the whole bottle is one unit.
It is a nice little size so mini hands can grip the bottle easily and feed their babies.
Well I wish I had filmed my little Goddaughters reaction to the bottle, she had obviously never seen one before and was so impressed with the bottle, it was so funny to watch her little puzzled face as the milk disappeared she really thought her dolly was drinking it.
This bottle has kept her more entertained than any of the other many toys that I had bought, sometimes she just sits there with the bottle turning it upside down and then back up again. Five months after I bought it she still asks for it every time she comes.
The bottle is hard wearing, as said above it is often played with but it still looks like new. With no scratches or anything.
The bottle costs £4 from ELC and is part of their Cupcake range, but of course you do not need a cupcake doll to use the bottle.
It says suitable from ages 3+, however my Goddaughter has used it since two and a half, I never leave her alone so she is always being watched and she has been absolutely fine with it. I can't see what the dangerous parts would be, maybe if the bottle broke ? .
I would highly recommend this to any little girls and boys who love their babies, such a great buy. Read the complete review |

Sylvanian Families Garden Barbecue Set
by wazza115
Whenever possible, I try to do my weekly shopping online as I find it loads easier and I don't have the hassle of having my daughter asking for things all the way around the shop! Last year when we went to our static van, I must have had a mental block because I had forgotten to take a lot of things with me so this meant we had to pop to ... Tesco's while I was there. As always, Lauren was asking for things all the way round but when she picked this up and asked for it, I couldn't resist.
The set retails at around £14.99 and I think I paid just short of this which definitely shows me it was an impulse buy, I normally shop around for Sylvanians as there tends to be some good bargains to be had. The set is quite widely available from places such as Argos, John Lewis, Toys R Us etc.
For the price, you get Mr Maurice Chantilly who is easily recognisable as a cat and is dressed is removable jeans, t-shirt and stripped apron. Like most 'adult' figures, he has moveable arms and legs which I like as Lauren is able to manipulate him into different poses such as cooking, sitting, etc. As this is a BBQ set, you also set everything you need to create the perfect party, a table with parasol, two chairs with removable cushions, charcoal BBQ, plates, glasses and food. There are also utensils that you need when 'operating a BBQ'. As with all Sylvanians, I find the attention to detail is excellent, the pretend burgers actually look like burgers and the utensils are easily identifiable.
Because some of the parts are small, the set is recommended for 4 years plus, we brought this for Lauren when she was 4 and I would say this was about right as some of the parts are tiny (we normally find that these get lost though not eaten!)
During the summer, every time we played with our Syvanians, they used to have a BBQ, it was so funny to hear Lauren shouting 'there are some more burgers if you want them!' it is nice to see making the figures interact with each other in a social environment. I also like the set as it gives Lauren and daddy some bonding time, my other half does really like playing with the Sylvanians (he is more of a scalextric man) however he does sometimes take on the role of Mr Chantilly!
The Sylvanian range is extremely large, almost every animal you can imagine, swings, cars, caravans, furniture, houses, ice-cream vans, schools, the list is endless. The range of products available is extremely large, almost every animal you can imagine, swings, cars, caravans, furniture, houses, ice-cream vans, schools, the list is endless. The price of the products vary, depending on the size of what you are buying, single baby animals can be purchased from around £5, sets of 7 animals are normally £20. Accessories and houses range for £5 up to £120. I would always recommend shopping around as there are some good bargains to be had, Amazon are normally great at reducing, but be warned that some of their RRP's are sometime a bit excessive.
Overall, I cannot pick fault with the set at all, it has provided lots of fun and for a good price therefore I would recommend and give this 5 out of 5 stars.

Fisher Price My First Doll
by InchyInchy
Fisher Price My First Doll
When my parents came round to visit me and my beautiful baby girl after we arrived home from the hospital, they came bearing gifts, including the Fisher Price My First Doll that has since been named Dolly. Dolly is a mostly pink stuffed soft toy that looks like you might expect a stuffed doll ... to look like; she has a warm smile, a cute hat, a soft middle and an inbuilt rattle. The doll is fairly large for a newborn baby and I would say that Dolly is approximately 20 cms high as well as being fairly chunky, which does help my daughter grasp for her and hold on to her.
I am not exactly sure what my mum and dad paid for my Baby's first doll but I do know that you can pick it up from places like Amazon for around £10. If I am honest it does seem a little on the expensive side for the toy.
Personally, I find the Fisher Price My First Doll to be a little boring and I much prefer the vibrant colours and interesting textures and noises of the Lamaze range of toys, but then Dolly isn't for me. My daughter is still only a small baby but she does show some interest in Dolly and especially seems to like the rattle and will play and interact with the doll if you put it in her line of sight.
I am not sure that I would recommend the Fisher Price My First Doll, but I do think my mum and dad bought it for the slightly gimmicky "My 1st doll" slogan on Dolly's middle. I would have to say that Dolly is a sweet gift but not something I would have picked up myself.
On a practical note the toy is well made and so far apart from being a little sicked up upon it looks as good as new and I suspect it will take up a corner of my baby's cot for quite a while to come. The Fisher Price My First Doll is recommended from birth onwards, but I do think that as my baby gets older and gets more interested in toys I doubt that this will be a favourite - but then only time will tell.
Three out of five stars. Read the complete review |
