Hello Kitty Mini Dolls House
by northernlovely **What is it?** The Hello Kitty Mini Dolls House is a small(ish) plastic house which you can carry along, open up and use with small Hello Kitty figures (some are supplied) for imaginitive play. If you were around in the late 80s / early 90s you might be able to remember Polly Pocket sets - this is the same type of ... thing. **Price and Availability** The price varies as far as I can see between around £15 and £20, with a postage and packing fee usually applicable on top of that. I actually bought the Hello Kitty Mini Dolls House from Debenhams just before Christmas where I took advantage of a 20% off and free delivery code, bringing the price down to around £14 delivered which I was happy with. You can also find it on Amazon, eBay and at independent retailers. **Hello, Kitty!** Now, you can buy non Hello Kitty versions of this house at a lower price, I've seen them in Smyths toy shop, however my little girl is Hello Kitty mad so we went for this. It's a licenced product and features not only Hello Kitty but her friends and family too (yes, there's loads of them!!) My daughter also has the Hello Kitty Busy Book which has lots of little Hello Kitty characters, these are compatible with the Hello Kitty Mini Dolls House so something to bear in mind if you want or need extra characters because you can pick the busy book up in Asda for £5. **What's in the Box** The Hello Kitty Mini Dolls House (which has a hinged front, which pulls down to reveal the 'garden'). The house is divided into rooms which are open fronted like a dolls house and allow play. It also has windows and a back door and porch. Lots (lots!) of little accessories which you can place in the house as you wish - A large bed Dressing table A long table with drawers, there is a small old fashioned tv on this A bedside table with a lamp on it A bath with taps A lavatory A make-up table A television on a television table A side table with a vase of flowers A telephone table, with an old fashioned telephone A sofa and chair An ottoman You get three of the Hello Kitty mini characters, Kitty herself, and Mummy and Daddy. This is sufficient for play but I am glad my little girl has the benefit of having the other characters from her Busy Book - Kitty's friends, pets, sisters, grandparents and so on. All of the pieces and characters are made in a durable plastic well moulded, no sharp edges and painted with lovely bright paints. Overall I do think you get plenty with the house to provide lots of options for entertaining play. **Fun Times** I find that with the Hello Kitty Mini Dolls House my little girl, who is two, will sit and play with this and arrange everything and talk to the little kitties and so on, pretend to give them a bath and put them to bed and tell them what's on the tv - it's very sweet to watch! She has had lots of peaceful, imaginitive fun with the Hello Kitty Mini Dolls House and I do think it's been value for money. The top of the house has a big handle (made to look like smoke coming out of the chimney, a nice touch)which is pretty sturdy and means she can carry the set around with her like a handbag, and take it to my family's homes to play with if they don't have any toys. **Niggles** Well, there are two but they are only minor. Firstly, I don't know if it's because my girl is only just 2, but the actual closing slider to open the top of the house is a bit hard for her little hands, so I have to do it for her. Secondly (and this is more of a personal gripe!) you have to be aware that you will end up with bits of this set all over your house, right now I have kitties on the rug, a bed on the hearth and a television on the dining room table...! So you will spend much time rounding up little plastic bits and bobs and returning them to their (literal) home. So maybe not a great gift for someone who already bemoans the state of their house! **Overall** Overall I think for the money the Hello Kitty Mini Dolls House is a great little gift and my daughter does love it (hence why it's all over my house right now..!). It does make a nice gift for a little girl especially a fan, it's just so sweet and provides hours of play. Overall I do think it's a lovely little set. Four out of five for Hello Kitty Mini Dolls House. Read the complete review |

Hello Kitty Castle Playset
by sparkleychel Hello Kitty Mini Castle Playset. My daughter received this on her 4th birthday from her friend, the mum had phoned me while in toys'r'us and asked if my daughter had the castle as she knew we had other Hello Kitty playsets. The castle was one we didn't have so made a perfect present at £10-£15. The box it comes in ... is about twice the size it needs to be , but easy to open, inside there is no packaging as such just the castle and the small accessories come in a small plastic bag. Once taken out of the box my 1st thought was oh ......and a feeling of disappointment . Now i wasn't expecting it to be huge , our other play sets aren't big , but this is small measuring 13 cms wide , and 18 cms high to the tallest part [ the top of the flag], and 9cms in depth. It probably looks smaller than its actual measurements because the plastic is very cheap looking and what i can only describe as thin looking, compared to the more chunky plastic usually found on children's toys. Castle front. The base is plain lilac and has a cobbled effect in the plastic . The pale pink castle clips, and is already screwed into the base . On the front of the castle are cerise pink double doors , The hinges on the door are good , in fact probably the best thing about the castle is the good hinges ! the doors don't come off , but neither do they stay shut very well , and are always left slightly open and look a bit wobbly . There are 3 balconies on the 2nd level of the castle . The front of the castle opens from the right hand side to allow for the play . Again the hinges are good and it doesn't snap off. The 3 turrets are left on the back of the castle , with just the pink part of the front opening . There are 2 pendant flag stickers on the front which started peeling off very quickly. Inside. Inside the castle the play area is only on the bottom level and is very small it measures 10 cms wide, 5cms tall , with a 3 cm depth , and then a slightly bigger area in front which is the purple base . The inside of the double doors there are 2 fixed candle stands these are in the plastic mould, rather than a separate piece .Apart from that it is totally plain , there is no detail , no stickers , or anything molded into the plastic on anything else . Back. The back of the castle at the bottom has a brick effect in the plastic, it also has 3 windows in the plastic these are the same pink colour, there is also some flowers [ i think that's what they are supposed to be] also in the same pink to be honest they don't stand out at all and are not adding anything to the toy. On the 2nd level is a small balcony with 3 arches that match the windows at the front . the actual play area on the balcony is only 3cm wide at it's widest. Accessories. The castle comes with princess kitty figure and her handsome prince bear . These are of a good quality and best thing about the whole castle. They are small 2-3 cms but perfectly formed and look totally out of place with the rest of the poor quality castle. There are also a white plastic swan, 2 tiny white doves, a unicorn and a horse and carriage these are awful, so cheap looking, the plastic is not properly formed and edges are rough . They look like something you would get in a christmas cracker , in fact i've had better toys from christmas crackers from the pound shop ! Conclusion. Even though my daughter does play with this castle and the hello kitty figure and bear, [ i took away the white plastic trashy accessories as i wasn't sure they were safe] i really can't recommend it . Take away the 2 small figures , which i'm sure are those found in the foil bags in supermarket for about £1, what you have left is a cheap thin plastic castle , i'm sure you could find something similar in a pound shop . Save your money as there are much nicer Hello Kitty play sets out there. 1 out of 5 , and that's only because you can't give 1/2 ! Read the complete review |

Hello Kitty Candy Store
by karalouk Like most young girls, my daughter loves Hello Kitty! Whilst on holiday last year I bought her a Hello Kitty Candy Store set. At the time I hadn't seen it being sold in the UK, however I have since seen it being sold at various places including Tesco, Amazon and Smyths Toys. The set comes packaged in a perfectly pink cardboard ... box! You cannot see the actual store (just a photo of it on front of the box) but you can see the characters and accessories which are covered over by plastic. When we removed the store from the box, we were initially surprised at how small it was (approx 16cm wide and 13cm high). Although we were surprised, we weren't really disappointed - the set is quite compact and is the perfect size for taking out and about. It even has a useful chunky carry handle on the top which allows my daughter to easily transport her candy store (and she really does take it everywhere with her!). The Hello Kitty Candy Store comes with lots of cute accessories. These include 3 characters (2 kitty's and a bear), popcorn machine, 3 chairs, table (with umbrella), sandwich board, ice cream cart, 2 barrels of sweets, a cake counter (with till), an oven and a pick 'n' mix counter. All of the accessories are made of plastic and are very small. Although they are small, they are also full of detail and character. My daughter loves fiddly little toys so needless to say, she loves playing with this set! Some of the accessories have stickers on them. Something which I really appreciate is that the stickers were already stuck on, I hate having to stick stickers on to toys (they haven't yet peeled or worn off either). All of the accessories seem durable and are still going strong 6 months on. As there are lots of small parts the Hello Kitty Candy Store is recommend for children 4+ years. The store itself is made solely of plastic. The plastic seems like good quality (no dents, scratches etc) and the store is easy to wipe clean. The store has 2 doors and a number of windows. Some of the windows have pink bars across them and some windows have transparent plastic across them - this is great as it lets plenty of light in to the store, gives the store lots of character but also lets you keep the accessories inside the store without them falling out of the windows! The doors consist of yellow swing doors which unfortunately have a tendency to fall off and can also be quite temperamental (they don't always shut when you want them to!). This is frustrating for my daughter as she likes to keep her accessories inside the store when she's not playing with it or carrying it around, but if the doors have fallen off or wont shut then the accessories often fall out. However this isn't always the case, sometimes the doors are fine. As I already mentioned, they are temperamental! The candy store looks really girly and pretty. It's sure to please all young girls (young boys might like to play with it but I doubt they would like to own it!). It is mainly pink in colour with a red roof (and pink handle on top). There are some green plastic bushes attached around the outside and the front door and front windows have purple/yellow striped 'covers' over the top (and a sign which reads 'Sweet Shop' over the door). The whole back of the store can be opened up and folded out flat on the ground (so the wall of the store turns in to a patio). There are 2 levels in the store which the accessories can be moved around on. The floor of the house (including the fold out wall/patio) has stickers on. These stickers are beautifully decorated (with tables, a sofa, pretty flooring, ice cream, a welcome mat, flower pot etc), are already stuck on and are still in perfect condition 6 months on. The fold-out aspect is brilliant as it opens up the store (more space to play) but also closes the store up to keep all of the accessories safety stored inside. However, after about 2 days we started experiencing problems with the fold-out flap and it constantly started falling off (it folds down in 2 halves. Sometimes only one half falls off, sometimes both halves fall off). This is so frustrating for my daughter as it's impossible for her to store her accessories inside when there's no back on it! Whilst playing with this set, she constantly asks me for help to clip in back on. This is a massive downside to me, but my daughter still seems to really likes her candy store! Despite its downsides, this set is great for imaginative play (and role play to an extent). As I've already mentioned, my daughter (who is 5 years old) loves fiddly toys. She also loves anything which involves using her imagination, so this set is right up her street! She has spent hours playing with her Hello Kitty Candy Store and hasn't got fed up of it, even after owning it for 6 months (she has actually seen some other similar Hello Kitty sets in shops and wants more). Most often she can be found using the characters to serve other characters sweet treats and sitting the customers down to enjoy their goodies! We paid more than we should have for the Hello Kitty Candy Store (about £18.00) but it generally sells for around £10.00. I don't think this is a bad price to pay for a toy which my daughter really enjoys playing with. It also comes with a generous amount of accessories, is very pretty and is suitable for taking out and about. However the fact it falls apart easily is a major downside. I will be quite generous and award 4 stars to this sweet like candy store. Read the complete review |
