Barbie Princess Styling Head
Advantages: Dolls head is well made
When I was younger I loved my styling doll and so knew I would purchase one for my daughter as she was only 2 I was looking for something inexpensive but useful so that I stopped getting my hair put in knots and a doll could take the abuse instead that is when I came across this is the Argos catalogue and decided to purchase it for her.
The doll head
The doll head was a lot smaller than what it looks in the pictures standing at about 20 cm tall not quite as I remember from when I was little but it looks ok. The details of Barbie are painted on the doll and she has medium length soft long hair for little one to brush. It shows the head of Barbie her shoulders and the top of her chest with a pretty pink top on which my daughter loves and it is easily recognisable straight away that it is Barbie so great for any fan.
The main base is made of thick durable plastic and so is very sturdy and durable. The hair is strongly attached to the top of the head meaning it can be tugged and pull with no danger of it all coming out of the dolls head and as it is down past the dolls shoulders and rather thick there is enough hair for lots of different styles.
I was a little worried at first as it looked like the hair fell in certain ways and could only be styled in these directs but the hair is actually really flexible and can be twisted and turned where ever little one wants to move it and although my daughter was younger than the recommended age range she had no problem in using it.
The doll sits steady on flat surfaces so little one can style away in ease and the brush glide through the hair easily so they can make as many styles as they like. The hair is easy to brush out on the odd occasion when it does get knotted mummy can take over and the hair is back to normal within minutes.
The hair does malt a little but we have had this for over a year now and although it is not one of her best loved toys it still gets a fair amount of use and there are no patches on the dolls head yet and my little girl can be very rough with it.
These are a major let down of the product as they really are poor quality the clips and earrings are both made out of plastic but it is very thin plastic that bends and snaps extremely easily. The first time my daughter tried to take the earring out of the dolls head they got stuck and snapped this is mainly because the holes in her ears are so very small and even when I tried to replace them in it was impossible so not sure how it was designed for a 3 year old to do.
Also the clasps on the clip have a very weak clasp on them which are impossible to close and after many attempts they snapped completely and headed for the bin so the accessories them self really are not up to much. The tiara you receive with the doll is a little better quality made but the ones on each side are so small there is no way of getting it to sit on Barbie's head without it toppling over each time her hair is brushed.
The brush has lasted well and does work through Barbie's hair well helping to tame it and style it and this is the only thing that we still have to accompany the styling head. My daughter has decided to use her own hair clips and bands to style the dolls hair which has made this toy much more fun as she can actually play with the hair and style correctly rather than having to struggle with bits of plastic that are poorly made and just do not work.
This toy is recommended for 3 plus and although my daughter was 2 when she received it this would have made no difference with the accessories they are poorly made and even I myself had problems with them but this is easily solvable by letting my daughter use her hair accessories to style the head instead. You can purchase this doll as part of the 2 for £15 scheme at Argos effectively meaning you get it for £7.50 and to be honest I do not think it is worth anymore.
Even though the doll was a lot smaller than we expected my daughter loves the head itself and I would recommend it for that but be prepared to buy accessories to go with it as you will need them. There are many variations of this doll head and if you're looking for something bigger better and more durable I would suggest paying that little bit extra to make it a more enjoyable toy.
