Betty Boop Hero
Advantages: Absolutely stunning with perfect attention to detail
Disadvantages: None for me
My passion for collecting Betty Boop figurines has grown from strength to strength following my initial purchase in the autumn on 2007. I have made so many promises to myself to refrain from purchasing any more, particularly as space is becoming somewhat scarce in our home. However, during the autumn/winter of 2011, the manufacturer, namely The Hearst Holdings Inc, launched twelve new collectables to the Betty Boop family and whilst I have not purchased them all, a few have found their way into my home! As soon as I saw this figurine on the website of my favourite seller I couldn't resist and this review discusses Betty Boop Hero.
The hand painted figurine is 30 cm in height and weighs approximately a kilogram and the collectables within the new range are simply delightful as the colours are so vivid and much brighter than those previously manufactured. Betty's feet are firmly fixed to a black glossy circular stand and she wears a pair of low heeled bright red knee high boots with dark yellow cuffs and black soles. Her slim body is always well presented with her trim curves where she nearly always appears scantily clad.
Betty wears a rather short red mini skirt and I love the way the manufacturers always carefully shape the resin to create the illusion of fabric. The skirt falls into small pleats and unfortunately, her modesty is not covered as she is wearing no pants! Clearly a rather large omission on the part of the manufacturers, particularly as poor Betty will find it rather chilly when flying through the winter skies! The waist band matches the cuffs of her boots and firmly fits around her tiny waist.
I am amazed at the newer Betty Boop figurines as I'm sure she's had a boob job as her chest seems to be huge and is not really in proportion with her slender figure. Betty proudly displays her well toned tummy and her short bright blue coloured top fits tightly around her chest. Her arms are posed on her curvaceous hips and I adore the way in which her tiny fingers have been created as each and every one of them has been perfectly formed with the exception of finger nails as the manufacturer seems to have forgotten about these and they are rarely displayed in any of the figurines that I own. Betty's rather ample chest displays a motif with the letters "BB", which could either represent Betty Boop or Big Boobs!
The rear of the figurine is equally as appealing with Betty's bright red bat style cape, which begins at the nape of her neck and flows towards her waist. I absolutely adore each and every one of my figurines, as I find it so hard to believe that they are made from resin, as the attention to detail is simply first class. Each time any visitors come to my home they spend ages gazing into my glass display cabinets so I have come to the conclusion that I need to start charging as I could make a small fortune!
A few people have mentioned to me that the character of Betty Boop is ugly due to her large head, which is not in proportion with her body. This is the final selling point for me as her oversized head makes this lady so adorable as well as her stunning and very cute facial features. Her huge green eyes always look either upwards or sideways and in this figurine she looks up towards the sky, so I presume she is planning to jet off on her next mission. Her long black eyelashes together with her perfectly groomed eyebrows achieve an adorable appearance and her make up is completed with her red puckered lips and tiny nose.
Betty's black glossy curls are identical in each of the figurines that I own where they are illustrated with eight curvy spikes running along the top of her head and a further eight curves framing her face. She is a lady who adores beautiful jewellery and this figurine shows her wearing a large pair of golden coloured hoop earrings. I've yet to undertake the task of cleaning this figurine, but this will be carried out in the identical way as my others where I use a cloth and a small clean paintbrush to reach into any awkward areas. Unfortunately, yellow household dusters are a definite no when cleaning my Betty Boops as the tiny fibres attach onto any raised areas of resin and are a nightmare to remove.
The underside of the figurine displays the familiar logo belonging to the manufacturer, which is a small image of Betty. Whilst this is not a detail that could be found on the earlier figurines, there are four small circular felt pads firmly glued to the underside to prevent the collectable from slipping or scratching surfaces when displayed. This is a cute figurine with such eye catching colours and for that reason she receives my full recommendation. Betty Boop Hero can be obtained from all good Betty Boop stockists and at the time of writing she can be purchased from Amazon for £50 inclusive of postage and packing.
I hope you found my review useful and thanks for reading.
