A real Betty Boop let down!

Yes, I'm back with yet another Betty Boop review! This is one of my earlier figurines, but I had not been in a position to review her until now due to the fact that I was unable to provide an image to Dooyoo with my product suggestion. Fortunately, this cute little figurine is now available from Amazon, which enabled me to forward the photograph to Dooyoo.

This cute figurine measures 12 inches in height and shows Betty posing on her chair. Whilst I provided Dooyoo with a photograph, as shown above, which shows Betty wearing a red dress and sitting on a black chair, my figurine wears black and sits on a red chair. The figurine is made from resin and is brought to us by The Hearst Holdings Inc, who are the owners of the Betty Boop Trademark and their logo can be found on the underside of the chair's circular seat.

Other than the Danbury Mint figurines that I own, which are made from a combination of porcelain and fabric, all of the others are made entirely from resin including the accessories. However, the back and legs of the chair on this figurine are made from metal, which in my opinion lets this down slightly as it appears a little inferior and reminds me of a cheap coat hanger! I cannot say that the design of the chair is very impressive, as it simply looks rather dull and unimaginative.

Betty sits rather seductively with her long slender legs on display, as her figure-hugging low cut black dress barely covers her rear! I turned around the figurine to examine the reverse and would advise that the dress is cut out into a low back "v" shape, which looks simply stunning. In addition to my complaint with the metal chair I have another issue with both the dress and black high heeled shoes, which have been scattered with black and silver glitter that subsequently ends up everywhere each time Betty is moved! Consequently, whilst sat at my computer desk writing this review I am transferring glitter from my fingers to my keyboard! The right hand strap on Betty's low cut strapless dress (if I can call it a dress, as it's more like a tee shirt!) is positioned slightly off shoulder and Betty's right arm rests on her thigh. Her left hand gently touches the red resin seat of the chair and on both of her wrists she wears a yellow coloured bangle.

Betty's head is turned slightly to her right hand side and as with all of the other figurines she wears ruby red lipstick on her puckered lips. As you are probably aware, Betty's black glossy curls are depicted by eight spikes, which run along the top of her head and with this figurine the spikes are slightly larger than any others that I own. Her huge green eyes look sideways and as always Betty shows off her beautiful long black eyelashes. To complete her look she wears a large pair of yellow coloured hoop earrings.

As you are probably aware I generally rate all of my Betty Boop figurines quite highly, but this is a real let down for a number of reasons in addition to those I have already discussed. On numerous locations throughout the figurine there are small areas of missing paint as well as significant indentations underneath Betty's painted eyelashes. I also discovered that the resin has not been correctly formed below both of Betty's hands and on her one shoulder. In fact, it is only now that I am closely examining this figurine that I realise how poor the workmanship actually is. I am of the opinion that writing for Dooyoo has made me quite critical, as I probably would not have otherwise noticed these imperfections!

Cleaning this figurine is an absolutely nightmare even though I use a small clean paintbrush. I say this because each time the figurine is wiped the black and silver glitter is simply distributed elsewhere and Betty now has a glittered face, legs and arms! To be honest, had I noticed these defects prior to purchase I would have left this one in the shop and that is saying something, particularly as I'm Betty Boop mad! Consequently, this figurine only receives 2 stars from me, which is the lowest rating that I've ever awarded to this cheeky woman! If you are interested in purchasing Betty Boop Sitting I would advise that at the time of writing (27 November 2010) she is available from Amazon for £44 plus £4.95 P+P.

I hope you found my review useful and would thank you for reading.
