As I have been collecting Betty Boop figurines for the past four years when it comes to birthdays and Christmas my family wouldn't have any problems in deciding what to purchase for me. However, that's proving a little difficult these days, particularly as I own so many. Consequently, for my birthday four weeks ago my parents asked me what figurine I would like and I chose this one, which had been in my Amazon wish list for many months. They purchased it from a nearby stockist and Betty Boop Thumbs Up joined my large Boop family.
The resin figurine is firmly fixed to a large oval pink coloured base and stands at 30 cm in height and is fairly heavy at approximately 1 kg. This curvaceous and sexy lady wears a rather revealing black mini skirt that has been painted to resemble that of a leather fabric. The waist of her skirt is positioned fairly low to reveal her trim and tiny tummy. Betty's right hand rests firmly on her rear end and her fingers are positioned in such a way to create the illusion that she is squeezing her bottom! This is clearly a good move on Betty's part, as she clearly will not be waiting for a lift for very long!
Betty's long slender legs display a pair of sexy pale cream coloured tights that have small circular markings and when I touch them I can feel the tiny indentations in the resin. This lady adores beautiful high heeled shoes and in this figurine she wears ruby red platforms on her petite feet. Betty has a rather ample bust and wears a very tight skimpy top that solely covers her chest area enabling her assets to become extremely prominent! She wears a skimpy black jacket, which again resembles the appearance of leather, but there is no way this would entirely cover her chest and it casually flows down both sides of her body. The painting of this figurine has been completed to perfection as no attention to detail has been spared with the creation of her clothes, as there are tiny creases in the resin to depict the illusion of real fabric. The jacket sleeves are mid-length and bare a wide white coloured hem to enable us to see Betty's long slim arms and two golden coloured bracelets are displayed on each of her tiny wrists.
Her left arm is outstretched with her fingers tightly clasped other than for her thumb, which stands upright as she hitches a lift from some unsuspecting motorist. Located behind Betty's feet is a box that has been beautifully painted in brown to create the illusion of wood. There are shelves on each of the four sides of the box with each containing three bottles, which I presume to be wine. The front of the box displays a lower shelf where I am able to witness a long oval shape in white with a pale shade of blue running through it. However, I haven't a clue what this is supposed to resemble.
I love the way in which the manufacturer, namely The Hearst Holdings Inc creates these beautiful figurines, as despite the facial features always being the same, they always offer a different appearance as far as I am concerned. I feel that the position of her body allows Betty's eyes and mouth to display a different look such as mischievous, sad, happy or one of contemplation. Her huge green eyes always look sideways where we are able to witness her stunning long eyelashes, perfectly groomed eyebrows, tiny nose and ruby red lips that always appear to be puckered. Her black glossy curls are illustrated with eight curvy spikes that run along the top of her head with a further eight curves running around the edges of her face. To complete her look she wears a pair of huge golden coloured hoop earrings to match her bracelets.
On the underside of the base is the manufacturer's authenticity logo, which is a small image of Betty with a heart around her head together with the date of manufacture, which is 2010. There are four small circular felt pads located on the four corners to ensure that your surfaces are not scratched and to prevent the figurine from moving when on display. However, all of my figurines are stored on glass shelves behind glass doors to prevent damage and to minimise dust. Cleaning the figurine is relatively easy where I use a slightly damp cloth and the aid of a small clean paintbrush to access any hard to reach areas. I have become very critical when reviewing my Betty Boops as being such an avid collector I study each and every one of them very carefully. However, this is a superb piece that receives my full recommendation and as a result, it receives 5 stars.
Betty Boop Thumbs Up is readily available on Amazon for £40 plus £4.95 P+P. However, my parents paid £38 from a local stockist, so it's well worth shopping around.
