Chad Valley Molly Minnie Mouse Doll
Advantages: Toddler doll, great quality
Disadvantages: Bulky, quite heavy for daughter
My daughter received four new dolls for her third birthday from various different people. One of them was a toddler size doll, I'd not seen any of these before but it has soon become my favourite of my daughter's dolls even though it isn't hers. The doll in question is this Molly Minnie Mouse doll.
--- Price and packaging ---
The doll is available to purchase from Argos either in store or online. There are a few different toddler dolls available to purchase but this one is slightly more expensive, the only reasoning I can see behind this is because this one features Minnie Mouse on the dolls top! It costs £20.
The doll comes inside a huge cardboard box which is pink and white in colour with a pretty girly pattern covering it. Inside the box is the doll with a comb and a single hairclip. The hairclip and brush are both made from plastic and are pale pink in colour. I wouldn't say the quality of these two pieces is anything fantastic, it's quite flimsy but my daughter hasn't broke hers yet so they can't be that bad.
--- Molly the doll ---
Molly, being a toddler size doll, is quite large. When I saw the size of the box I knew she would be big but once out of the box she looks huge. She measures in at approximately 65 centimetres high, certainly the biggest doll my daughter has. She is dressed beautifully with her own black boots lined with pink fluff, she's teamed these boots with pink tights and a denim looking skirt. Molly's top looks like she is wearing a t-shirt over a white long sleeve top but it's in fact, all one top. The purple t-shirt has a picture of Minnie mouse. The clothes are easy to remove, the skirt and tights are stitched together and stay up due to the elastic in the waist band and the top does up with Velcro. My daughter has this thing about dressing and undressing all of her dolls at the moment and she finds it easy doing this with Molly.
Molly has lovely, long blonde hair, she comes styled with it in pig tails but you can take the elastic bands out and style her hair however you like. The hair is quite thick and has a nice texture to it, it doesn't have the scratchy type feeling that you sometimes get with cheaper dolls. My daughter received a vanity case for her birthday and often sits down to blow dry the dolls hair! Although we haven't had the doll long the hair is starting to get slightly matted which is a bit of a disappointment, but it can't be helped when you let a three year old loose to do her hairdressing 'thing'.
Due to the size of the doll, Molly is quite heavy. My daughter did initially find it difficult to carry her places and the sheer size of her means she can't carry her up and down the stairs safely. She is rather bulky and can only be carried when she is in vertical position due to my daughter not being that much bigger than her so she can't be cradled.
Although it can sometimes prove difficult for my daughter to play with the doll in the same way she does her smaller dolls, she still loves playing with Molly. The role playing she does with her is different to the smaller dolls where they normally sit in the highchair and pram etc. Molly has to hold each mine and my daughters hand to go for walks, and goes for days out to my daughters very own hairdressers! I think Molly has opened up a whole new world to my daughter's role playing and this is definitely a good thing.
--- Overall ---
I would definitely recommend this Molly toddler doll. I think, had my daughter received this any earlier than what she did then she wouldn't have got played with just down to the sheer size and bulkiness of her. However, my daughter plays with her fine now and has started a whole new range of role playing scenarios with her. I don't think I would pay any more than £20 for the doll so think Argos have got the price spot on, Molly offers good value for money.
Summary: Massive doll
