“ Manufacturer: Danbury Mint / Type: Doll „
For those of you who have been following my reviews you'll be aware that I'm mad about Betty Boop and have a rather extensive collection of gorgeous figurines. Don't worry, I don't intend to write about each and every one of them; I'm aiming to look at the pieces, which in my opinion, are the most decorative and collectable.
The figurine that I'm discussing today is "Talk of The Town", which is a Danbury Mint exclusive and manufactured by the Hearst Holdings Inc. On the underside of the collectable, you will see a larger gold official sticker providing full details of the piece.
The porcelain figurine stands at 13 cm high and is attached to an oval shaped glossy base. Betty sits comfortably with her legs to her left hand side whilst she chats to her friends on her cute tiny pink telephone. She wears a short-sleeved black top and brightly coloured pink trousers, which have been decorated with blue, yellow and green flowers.
She has a tiny golden bangle type chain around her left ankle, which has been adorned with a red heart charm. There are very few Betty Boop figurines that display her wearing sensible shoes, but in this one, she wears a low heeled pair of blue slippers, which have been decorated with a huge white "puff" on the toe area.
The pink telephone is oval shaped and displays a white dial and gold press down buttons. The attention to detail in this hand painted figurine is simply superb as the telephone has been provided with a coiled wire that attaches to the life-like receiver, which is held to Betty's left ear.
There are three magazines scattered in front of Betty; one of which is open to display two golden haired models. There is even text on the pages, but without a magnifying glass, I'm unable to read the wording, so I'm unsure if it is actually legible.
The two closed magazines are named "Modern" and "Romance" and Betty holds a further magazine in her right hand, which has been turned to a page of Betty Boop models; one of which is another Danbury Mint figurine. According to Danbury Mint, Betty has just discovered the article is all about her and cannot wait to ring and tell her friends!
Betty wears a pretty gold linked chain around her neck with an attached amethyst stone, which is hanging loosely down her back. As Betty is a follower of fashion and simply loves her jewellery, she wears matching dangly earrings.
Betty's curls are always depicted by eight pointed areas on her head, as shown in the above-mentioned photograph. The points run across the upper section of her head and there are a further seven on the rear. To finish her fashionable look, Betty wears a hairclip on her glossy black curls, which is covered in ruby red sparkling stones.
As in all of the Betty Boop figurines, her eyes are huge and are gorgeous green and her lips are always ruby red.
Talk of the Town can only be obtained from Danbury Mint and will cost you £56 plus £3.00 postage and handling. You can choose to pay in full or spread the cost over two interest-free monthly payments.
Accompanying your gorgeous collectable will be a certificate, which will provide you with full details of your figurine, together with cleaning advice. Thanks to Dooyooers leaving comments on my previous Betty Boop reviews, I am able to easily clean mine with a small paint brush.
As this figurine is a work of craftsmanship, it gets a full 5 out of 5 dooyoo stars from me.
I hope you found my review useful and would thank you for reading.
