We have been collecting these Animator dolls for the last year and we now have 5 of them. My daughter hadn't seen Mulan until fairly recently when I bought it for her. After watching it she was very taken with Mulan and when we visited the Disney shop to spend her Easter money she wanted a Mulan doll.
Mulan costs £20 and can only be bought in the Disney shop or on the Disney store online.
The animator range of dolls is designed to look like the Disney princesses as toddlers. They are recommended for children aged 3 and over.
There are several different dolls available including Belle and Rapunzel. Mulan comes in a light grey box with drawings over the box in pale pink writing. Her name is printed across the front. These dolls can also be kept in the box for collectors and the doll is placed in the box in a way that shows her off.
We opened our doll as it was for my daughter to play with. These dolls are difficult to get out of the box. Mulan's hair is stuck down to the box to keep it all neat and tidy and it is also coated in something that feels like hairspray to keep it all in place.
Mulan has lovely long black hair which is plaited this is better for us that Rapunzel whose hair is loose and gets tangled in my daughters other toys. Mulan has beautiful Chinese clothing on which is silk and covered in pretty flowers. Her trousers are a pale pink colour and she also has a sash which is red and blue. Mulan also comes with her friend in the box a soft plush little dog which is called 'little brother' in the film. The dog is made from a lovely soft velvety feeling material. Mulan also comes with little pink rubber shoes. This is a new edition to the animator dolls as our other dolls don't come with shoes.
My daughter loves to play with these dolls. They aren't particularly cuddly as they are rigid dolls which can have moving hands and legs. However my daughter likes to push her around in her pushchair as well as sit with her watching the film. My daughter also likes to play with her hair which is really soft and silky and can be brushed and styled.
I would recommend Mulan she is a really beautiful doll her face is cute and she has lovely childlike features which would appeal to younger children and collectors alike.
Disney Animator Doll Mulan.
The animator dolls are a collection of princesses re-imaged as toddlers by legendary Disney animators Mark Henn and Glen Keane. There were originally 10 , but i believe they have now added Merida from the film Brave to the collection.
We first saw the dolls is our local Disney Store at the r.r.p of £20 and was impressed with the size it seemed very good value for the price. On different visits to the store we saw all of the different princesses . Some were definitely cuter looking than others, i personally thought Sleeping Beauty was very odd looking and a little creepy! My daughter who originally thought Rapunzel was the best was told to wait to see what Father Christmas brings.
So when i spotted them on the Disney Store website in the sale for £15 i thought bargain and looked at them again more closely. Initially i was going to buy Rapunzel but another look at all that hair had me changing my mind , we have a large collection of disney princess dolls and the hair drives me mad no matter how well you look after it the hair knots and tangles and looks scruffy very quickly .
So i decided that my daughter would like Mulan . I chose her because she has such a pretty face , lovely brown eyes and long dark hair in 2 braids [plaits] and as Mulan isn't one of the more popular princesses i thought she would make a nice change. But mostly i chose her because she looks like my daughter !
The doll itself is a large 40cm tall and made of plastic . She will stand up alone , and if put in the sitting position will sit without falling over . She has black hair that is in 2 plaits with a red ribbon band , these are very secure and have stayed in well and helped the hair stay looking neat and tidy.
Her clothes have a silky feel with a pink flowered kimono style top which has velcro opening at the back , and pull on elasticated waist trousers in white comes with little pink shoes which are easy enough for your child to put on , and secure enough that they stay on too.
She also comes with a little soft toy dog called little brother he's 9cms top to bottom and 5cms across made out of a suede like material with embroidered details and a nice little extra.
At first i wasn't sure how much 'play' time this doll would give, and whether at 5 she was a little old for this doll . The fact that it doesn't wee or cry etc was a bonus to me as my daughter doesn't like those kind of dolls but wondered if she would become bored with it easily .But thought it would look nice on her shelf if it wasn't a hit with my daughter , but she loves it !
I think because it's a substantial size and easy to move about , Mulan has been on all sorts of adventures . She regularly gets invited to tea parties and day trips out which it more than can be said for the Baby Annabel lurking in the bottom of a toy box . Its the perfect doll for using your imagination, because Mulan isn't as well known as other's and due to her younger look you don't have to be a Disney Princess fan to appreciate her ,she could just be a pretty doll.
I think this is a lovely traditional girls doll , good quality and can take a bit of rough and tumble and would be perfect for a toddler as well as a young girl . At full price this is great value and i would happily buy again.
