“ Manufacturer: Disney / Type: Doll Clothes „
My youngest daughter has just turned five and she received some wonderful gifts at her party. One of her favourites is the Disney Princess storybook paper doll kit which has already provided hours of entertainment for her and her six year old sister.
This amazing kit contains over 500 different pieces with the main ones being the Disney princesses - Ariel, Sleeping Beauty, Belle, Cinderella and Snow White. These dolls are stand up cardboard figures that come dressed in their underwear but there are lots of different outfits for them to be dressed in to. Most of these can be interchanged but there are some dresses that obviously belong to certain princesses because you recognise them from what they wear in the films. All of the outfits and accessories can be peeled off from their background card and then they very cleverly cling to the dolls. This makes it very easy not like the cut-out dolls I remember from my childhood when all the clothes had tabs and these invariably ripped off! The princesses all have cardboard stands so they do stand up properly which makes it even more important for the outfits to cling - which they do well! I love the fact that when the princesses take their clothes back you can just put them back where they came from and they will cling to the original page. This makes it very easy to keep them all together and tidy!
There is also a wardrobe organiser at the back to put everything but my daughters seem to prefer just to replace them from where they got them and then they can see what everything is clearly.
Just dressing all the different dolls has given my girls hours of fun but there is also much more in this set. At the back there is a garden play setting which can provide a backdrop for presenting princess plays. There are also princess sized little books to make with ready printed stories. These are very cute and we have made them easily (you will need scissors though) and it is suggested that these can provide stories for acting out in the princess plays. There are nicely easy to follow instructions for making these too.
There is also a suggestion that children could make more costumes or embellish the existing ones too. There are stencils, embossed plates, pattern sheets, gems and jewels, satin ribbons and fabric swatches. There is everything that a little girl could want and more in order to start creating. The girls have loved adding extra sparkles and bows to the dresses and they look quite impressive. Who knows! I could well have a budding fashion designer on my hands!
The best thing about this set though is the way that it inspires my daughters' imaginations. They love dressing the dolls and then making up elaborate stories about them. I have to admit that I love listening in on their games too! It really is quite magical!
Everything fits very easily into the carry case that has an elastic fastening that means that everything stays firmly in place. I really am impressed with the design and how all the contents inspiring so much activity including making things, reading, role play and storytelling. I think that this is the perfect present for any small girl and even though the recommended age is 6+ it is great for my five year old too!
At present it is available from a seller on ebay for £9.99 with free postage.
