My daughter has recently started enjoying the Disney Princesses and every time we go to the shops she like to look at all the merchandise and tell me what she'd like next - not that she gets it all! We got her the Belle doll just before her birthday and then later for her birthday she also got the Ariel doll. She was almost 4 years old when she got this.
---About the product:
The Disney Belle Princess is one of a range of different Disney Princess dolls. They seem to have a massive range of different styles. We chose this one because it was on offer. She comes packaged in a cardboard box with a clear plastic front and once opened she is secured to the back cardboard around her neck.
Through the plastic front you can see the Belle doll. She is dressed in a yellow dress with silver sparkles and pink netting around the neck and waist sections. It doesn't really match any of the dresses Belle wears in the film Beauty and the Beast, but I think it is supposed to be a representation of the dress she wears in the ballroom scene. She has the long brown hair associated with the character and has a small pink plastic crown on her head. She is also wearing pink plastic high heeled shoes which are secured by clear plastic bands around her feet.
The doll is a hard plastic doll with a soft rubbery head. The doll is jointed at the hips so you can move the doll from a standing to a sitting position. The arms are jointed at the shoulders so you can move them forward and back; and the neck is jointed so the head can rotate and move up and down. The dress can be removed using a Velcro strip at the back and underneath the doll has a pattern imprinted into the plastic to simulate knickers on her.
My daughter was very excited when we bought this doll and wanted to play with it as soon as we got it home. It took a little bit of effort to get her out of the box but once we did, my daughter wanted to play with her straight away. The doll is a standard play doll with the wrists point outwards continuously as if she is putting her arms out for a hug, which means she can't be made to pick things up or bend at the elbows. The doll can obviously not stand up (especially in the high heels!) but most of this style can't anyway. The dress can be removed and I would assume that other dresses would be able to fit the doll if you had others.
My daughter didn't play with it that much until she got the Ariel doll as well for her birthday. At that point, having two dolls to play with gave her more scope for playing with it. She enjoys having a Belle doll and she will play happily with both of them together or just one or she is now learning how to share them with other people to play together which is good. She has taken the crown off the hair and that has ben relegated to a drawer so she doesn't lose it during her play. We have left the ties around the shoes so that they don't get lost either. She enjoys doing imaginative play with the dolls and will re-enact parts from the film or will make up her own stories with the dolls and other dolls she has.
I have been quite pleased with this doll overall for my daughter but would have been unhappy to pay the full £10 for it. I just don't think the Disney label justifies spending so much more on an item than it is worth. You can easily buy this style of doll for a lot less although it might not look entirely like Belle. Although to be honest, I don't think this doll looks entirely like Belle either! I could probably have bought any doll with brown hair and a yellow dress and told her it was Belle. Some of the other dolls are much more similar to their Disney counterparts but I don't think this one is brilliant. The hair annoys me as it gets tangled so easily and there is no brush included with it. Luckily, I have some from the My Little Ponies I used to have which I kept for her so we can get the tangles out. I have bought a couple more of these dolls for her when I have seen them half price and have stored them for Christmas as I know she will love them regardless of what I think of them. As her views are probably more important than mine for a review of a children's toy; I will only take 1 star away for the overall price and looks.
Now you can re-live the magic of Belle at home with this Disney Princess Sparkle doll. You can even introduce Belle to the other Princesses, I'm sure they will all become great friends with a lot in common. Various styles available sold separately
