“ Brand: ELC / Type: Doll „
My daughter received a parcel full of presents just before her third birthday from her family in Kent. There were quite a few different presents, one of them was this doll.
--- Price and packaging ---
The Cupcake giggling Lucy doll is part of Early Learning Centre's Cupcake range so can only be purchased from them either in store or online, as with most ELC toys, it can sometimes be purchased from Mothercare and Amazon. There are two different giggling dolls available to buy, Lucy or Luke, a boy version. These dolls cost £18 full price.
The doll comes in an open plan cardboard box so you can see exactly what is inside and can touch it and try it for yourself before you buy. The packaging is pretty and girly and coincides with the rest of the Cupcake range. The doll is secured in place with silly plastic ties but it doesn't take long to take her out of the box.
--- Giggling Lucy ---
Lucy is a premium doll in my eyes, my daughter has many small 'cheap' dolls as I like to call them but I think Lucy is much better than these. The doll is quite large at around 45 centimetres long, although she is big; all of her body parts are in good proportion. Lucy is made from both hard and soft materials with her body mainly being padded and the head and limbs being harder. She is lightweight and my daughter doesn't have any trouble carrying her around. One of my favourite points about Lucy is the fact that her eyes close when she is lying down. My daughter likes acting like the mummy and tries putting her dolls to sleep in her play cot but she gets extremely frustrated if they don't close their eyes, I breathed a sigh of relief when I spotted these close!
The outfit that Lucy comes dressed in looks a little baggy for her on first look but this is a good thing in the long run as it makes it easier for my daughter to remove when she wants to undress her, there is also a piece of Velcro on her back to make it even easier. The sleep suit is mainly baby pink with some white polka dots thrown in too. There is a ribbon stitched onto the sleep suit which has a dummy attached to the other end, the dummy fits in Lucy's mouth well and is made from a hardwearing plastic, the only problem with this is that Lucy can't have the dummy when she is wearing a different outfit. This outfit also comes with a hat that slips onto the head with ease.
Lucy requires 3x LR44 batteries, I'm not totally sure what batteries these are but think they are the small round ones you can buy. Hopefully we won't ever need to change them but if we do it will be an easy process (after I've bought the right ones!) as the battery pack is easy to get to by way of a Velcro flap on the front of her body. This also houses the speaker and is the part of Lucy you have to press to get her to giggle. The giggle sound Lucy makes is realistic and lasts about 4 seconds in total. The volume seems to be spot on as she is easy to hear but not annoying for me like some of my daughters other toys can be.
My daughter loves her new Lucy doll, she also received the Cupcake collection toy at the same time which includes a highchair, stroller and bouncer and Lucy fits in all of these items perfectly. Another present she received was an outfit to go with Lucy, so she spent a lot of time dressing and undressing her in her two different outfits but now the sleep suit that Lucy came in is left in the doll accessory box she has and she prefers that Lucy wears her other outfit. My daughter can carry Lucy around without any problems so it means she can carry her upstairs or down without needing me to take her up if she wants to play upstairs. When my daughter is walking with the Cupcake stroller, Lucy is always the doll of choice to use with it as they are a perfect match size wise and Lucy looks great in it.
--- Overall ---
At £18, I think this Cupcake giggling Lucy is a bargain. If you look at other brands of dolls you could pay around double this. The quality of this doll is excellent; she is hard wearing and cute to look at. My daughter loves the fact she closes her eyes and there are many different accessories to purchase with her. Lucy is recommended to children over the age of three but as there are no small parts I don't see any reason why younger children couldn't play with her.
One supplied, giggling Luke doll available separately.
Share giggles with baby Lucy by pressing her tummy for giggling sounds. Sit Lucy up and she will open her eyes, lie her down and go to sleep.
Not suitable for children under 36 months due to small parts.
