Advantages: Good value for money, encourages imaginative play
Disadvantages: None
I really wanted to get my daughter the ELC Rosebud House but it was deemed too big and too expensive so I decided to just get her some of the dolls and then the furniture sets instead that could be stored in a box as needed. She later got a much smaller dolls house so is now able to play with her dolls in her house. I saw this set on sale second-hand for £1 and couldn't resist buying it for my daughter. She got his set when she was 26 months.
---About the range:
The Early Learning Centre Rosebud House Pet Set is part of the Rosebud range available from ELC. All of the range are in the main colours of pink and white making them more suitab le for girls. The range includes the actual Rosebud dolls house, furniture sets for different rooms, dolls families, pet sets and smaller dolls sets.
---About the set:
The set I have is slightly older than the one pictured but contians mainly the same things. It contains a cat with a small basket, a dog with a kennel and a rabbit with a hutch with a door that can be opened. There are also two bowls, one of which is a double bowl for the rabbit. My set does not have the bone I see in the picture. Everything in the newest set matches the other furniture sets and the Rosebud doll's house which can also be purchased. It is all made of wood except the animal ears which feel like felt and their string legs/tails.
---Our experiences:
My daughter has really enjoyed her dolls house and recognises the items for it so was excited when she got this one. I gave them to her when we were out one day so she played with them without the rest of the house and loved them. She looked up at me and asked 'For Me?' and when I told her they were her smile was massive and a big 'Thank you Mummy!'. She started playing with them immediately and recognised the animals straight away. She had great fun putting the animals into the houses for each of them and pretending to feed them using the bowls. In fact she did put some drink in one of them so it wasn't just pretend...
When we got home, she played with these with her existing toys and had lots of fun adding different animals to the houses and also putting the animals onto chairs and beds etc within the house. She has played with this set so many times in the last month and seems to enjoy them a lot. The fact she can put animals in the houses has given a lot more fun than just having the animals themselves.
---My findings:
I really love this range of toys and if I had the money and the space I would probably buy an awful lot of it. Some of them seem quite poor value for money but at £8 I would probably rate this as a very good set to buy and can be played with independently of any other sets or the dolls house. It fits nicely into our much smaller house and has a lot of items to encourage imaginative play. There is a lot of play to be had with this toy and my daughter has definitely enjoyed playing with it. She has been able to use this with other little animal toys she has and has used the animals in other areas of the house too. My daughter has been able to develop her imagination and storytelling with this set and having seen these animals in real life, she knows what they can do in her stories. It is good that they have used common pets even though we don't avtually own any of these!
---And finally:
As with the whole range, this is a very girly set with the colours and my daughter really enjoys playing with it. I would definitely recommend this set as I think it has a good value for money as you get a lot of items in the set. It costs £8 for this set and as you get 3 separate animals and houses for them you can get a lot of play. This set is fine for my 2 year old daughter, even though the age range is for 3+ as none of the pieces are that small and I'm happy to let my daughter play with it. I think this set will give her a lot of joy for many years.
Summary: Well recommended
