My daughter who is quite keen on babies at the moment has somehow accumulated quite a few dolls and yet I have only purchased her one of these. Within this collection of dolls, she has a few bigger, harder dolls, but also a couple of soft dolls, one of which is this Fisher Price My First Doll which was passed on to my daughter by her older cousin who was past the soft doll stage and into barbies! When it was given to my daughter, since it was second hand, I wasn't quite expecting it to be in as good condition as it arrived in, but it was as good as new. I like Fisher Price toys and I like the quality of Fisher Price toys and this sot first doll was no exception.
Purchasing this doll will cost you around the £10 mark, which is pretty costly for a soft doll, however, there appear to be deals on in the likes of Argos, so it can be picked up cheaper. There is no doubt this is a cute first doll, and so soft, that it could easily be given to a young baby to cuddle as a first soft toy. My daughter was given it as a doll to play with and push around in her toy buggy, rather than as a cuddly toy for her cot.
This doll is pretty much all pink so it is very girly. There are different textures on the doll, especially on the sleeves part that may appeal to a younger child who like to explore textures when teething or grasping. In the tummy area of the doll, it has the words 'Baby's 1st doll'. When the doll is shaken lightly, there is a little rattle, which again will appeal to young babies. This is also a nice soft toy for a baby to cuddle into when sleeping and to use as a little comforter toy.
When my daughter was given this doll, she took to it very quickly as it was so soft, especially in comparison to her harder dolls, which are heavier and more cumbersome for her to move around, and in fact they tend to get thrown into the pram, whereas this soft small doll is more liked to be gently placed in the small play buggy my daughter has. At 17 months, I still think she finds this soft doll more cuddly and easier to play with than the bigger dolls and she likes how she can put it in the buggy herself and it wil sit up as with the bigger dolls she has to try and navigate the dangling legs into the bigger pram that she has, and gets frustrated when she can't get it in.
One thing she doesn't like about this soft doll is that the eyes don't open or shut. Her bigger dolls have eyelids that close and open and she tries desperately to shut the eyelids on this doll and can't understand why they won't close and the doll is always awake, especially when she puts the doll down for a sleep!! This is probably where it is therefore more suitable for a slightly younger child who sees it as a soft toy.
All in all, this is a beautiful first soft doll and my daughter certainly likes it. SHe likes putting her in her buggy and strolling around with it, and she is able to move it around easily, as it is light and small. The eyelids don't move and she can't get her toy bottle into its closed mouth, which frustrates her at times, but it is still ideal as a first doll.
This doll was bought for my daughter at Christmas along with the pram. I have just gotten round to taking it out of the box. Anyone with young babies will understand when I say they get loads for Christmas and they all come in ridiculous boxes with stupid cable ties, so I have been slow to get everything out. Amelia is now 10 months old and as I'm not really a doll person, much preferring boys toys so she has never played with a doll before.
Upon taking this out of the box I was surprised by how soft it was. I have young nieces and I though this doll would be the same as some of theirs all hard and plastic. So I was very pleasantly surprised. The doll is completely soft with no plastic bits, perfect for Amelia as she has a worrying habit of banging herself in the head with everything we give her. The dolls body and head are made of a velour sort of material and the feet and arms are a silky material so baby gets to feel different textures. Under the dolls hat is a rattle which my daughter loves shaking.
Amelia sat and played with this for around 15 minutes, which is about as good as her attention span gets. She also took it to bed where she enjoyed stroking the bobble on top of dollys hat. This is made of a silky material too and seemed to comfort her. Being soft the doll is fully machine possible, which is great for us as one of the first things she did was stick the dolls foot in her mouth, which she does with everything so it will be handy to pop it in the machine to clean it.
This doll is widely available for around £10 and I think for the price it's a wonderful first doll. I can lpop it in her cot knowing it's soft and has no choking dangers. 5 stars from me!
With a huge amount of people asking me what kind of presents my daughter wanted for her first Christmas at 1 and a half months old, I struggled with ideas. I got out the Argos catalogue and started to make a list of things that would be suitable. One of the items on that list was this doll made by Fisher-Price, low and behold, it happened to be one of her gifts at Christmas.
*** The doll ***
This dolly is an ideal starter point for any young girls doll collection. It looks like a baby, is shaped like a baby but is soft and gentle to the touch. At roughly 12 inches high, it is a perfect size for younger babies as well as toddlers. The dolly is made from a soft fleece-like material throughout with no excess material or objects giving parents peace of mind. Above the dollies head, under the hat, is a small rattle.
Fisher-Prices My First Doll is suitable for babies of any age and is widely available for £9.99. There are many big accessories, also made my Fisher-Price, that go with this dolly such as a pushchair and cot.
*** Our thoughts ***
In the early days dolly wasn't played with often, she didn't really get a look in until Kacie was around 8 months and then insisted that dolly came everywhere with us, and when I say everywhere, I really mean everywhere! Being taken out so much it was inevitable that dolly would get dirty, but she is fully machine washable so it wasn't really much of a problem.
When Kacie started toddling around at 11 months was when dolly got played with the most. The rattle inside dollies hat made Kacie want to walk around with her everywhere. When she was a bit more steady on her feet, and she received a pram for either her birthday or Christmas (rubbish memory, sorry!), she would always put dolly in for a walk. This is when role playing really did start and she started to feed her and walk her everywhere.
Now, at almost two years old, dolly is still in a great condition despite being put in the washing machine on countless occasions. Dolly still gets played with almost daily and takes part in all of Kacie's role playing activities, the favourite at the moment being tea parties.
For £9.99 who could say no? This dolly is so versatile and a perfect way to start your little ones doll collection off. It isn't very babyish so that it would get grown out of quickly, and hasn't got any plastic objects etc so that it wouldn't be suitable for young babies. Fisher-Price have got this doll spot on!
I purchased this doll for my daughter for her first Christmas. At the time she was 4 months old. As a small baby she used this doll to hold and chew on. It is made with bright colours and a nice soft body , great for cuddles. With its bold face with a simple pattern this made it very appealing to her and other babies. I always felt it was a safe first doll for her during this stage of her development. Up until around 10months this doll was mainly for giving cuddles and for feeding a bottle.
When my daughter got to around 12 to 18 months I was quite surprised that she still enjoyed playing with the doll. It fits perfectly in the crook of a toddlers arm and is a good size to put in any small pram or high chair. The soft body makes it easy for a toddler to place into things including bags, that was my daughters favourite.
My daughter is now two and a half and still plays with the doll. It is not played with as often as it used to be but she will still push it round in a pram and feed it a bottle. I think having a doll from a baby and then growing up with it makes it more special.
A good quality soft bodied doll at a reasonable price. I purchased the doll on the two for fifteen pounds offer at Argos which is brilliant value saying it is still played with two years later. The doll is also well made and durable and has survived lots of play and a few goes in the washing machine. It has a lovely face and the bright colours and textures make it so interesting for young babies and children.
Having two girls is turning out to be a problem at the minute. This is due to everything that the older girl has got the younger one wants. The main downfall to this is that the younger girl is only 1 and can not play with all the things that my older daughter has got. This has resulted in me trawling through catalogues to find a more baby friendly version of toys for her that resemble the older ones.
I bought this my first doll to go in my babies pushchair that we had to buy for her. The appeal to this toy was that it was priced at £9.99 in Argos. This doll has been pictured on many of the boxes of bigger toys that I have bought and was pictured on the pushchair that we bought her too.
This doll is the perfect girl toy that is in pink and looks like a baby but made like a teddy. This has meant that my daughter has found no problems picking up this doll or carrying it around with her. The whole of the doll is soft with no parts like buttons that can be pulled of. The fact that there are no loose parts is brilliant due to I have found that my daughter likes to take this doll to bed with her now.
This doll has been a perfect size for my daughter she has been able to put it in the pushchair easily and it will also fit in the front basket on her ride along pony. It is only about 10 inches tall which means my daughter is not weighed down with it. She has really taken on a mother role with this doll at such a young age which has surprised me. She likes to push it around try and feed it and even puts it in her sisters pram to put it to sleep.
The thing with the doll that has amused my daughter the most is that when she is holding it and running it makes a noise due to a rattle being inside it. This rattle is situated in the head of the doll under the hat and is securely stitched in the doll. It is quiet close to the surface which has been a slight problem when it has been thrown due to it has caught a few of my children on the head. I feel that they could have padded the rattle a little better in the doll.
This doll is made by fisher price and has been made to suit the baby accessories which is great. It is a perfect size for a young child and even baby. I wish that I had bought this for her birthday last year due to she will grow out of it soon and want real dolls.
It is a cute looking doll and has baby features. The material is a fleece material with a little bit of satin on the arms, hat, feet and belly. It has the words baby's first doll on the belly which I don't think is needed. The fact that it is pink is good for our house too because my daughters love anything that is pink but I do think that they should make one that is a boy or even for boys because all my children have played with this the 6 and 7 year old lads in the house seem to find it very interesting and I think it should be more options with colours and sexes.
Overall this has been a very good first doll and is very child friendly. I think it is a brilliant price and a very attractive toy. There are no down sides to the toy but they could make a better range and a boy range too. I have found this a worthwhile toy with no hazards well done to fisher price they know how to make perfect baby toys.
We brought jessie the fisher price pushchair walker which came with this doll but she can be purchased seperately for £9.99.
This is an ideal first doll for a baby, it is a perfect size to be held and cuddled aswell as being light enough to be carried around just as they are starting to walk. The doll is completely soft boddied with no hard bits at all to hurt baby. The two curls at the front of her hat are made from material rather than synthetic hair so are less of a choking hazard for your little one which is a good thing with jess as she puts everything in her mouth.
She has a lovely looking face which looks happy an cheerful, once again here are no choking hazards here as all of the details are embroidered on. The body is made of a velvet feel material with silk feel arms, feet and a badge on the front, jess loves the feel of the material on this doll as it is so soft and she finds this realy comforting.
She has a rattle in her head that makes a sound when you shake her which appealed to jess long before he began to learn to walk so I would say this doll is suitable right from new born and has been enjoyed every day by jess since she had it five months ago.
I would recomend this to any new little girl.
This is my daughters first doll given by a friend. I'd not seen these before but it is baby's first doll from Fisher Price costing around £9.99.
The picture above shows the doll but the colours are more brighter really. I really like her little rosy cheeks.
The doll is made from a lovely soft to the touch material like soft suede, The arms and base of feet have some satin material on as does the badge on her front. There are two curls of ribbon making her hair and ribbon laces on her feet. I've given them some good tugs to make sure they are totally safe and don't pull out and they are fine. The lovely blue eyes and other facial features are all sewn on so again child baby safe as no mishaps of bits falling off.
The doll is very light in weight.
The doll can't stand up alone but can be propped against something. In the doll's head is an added bonus of a rattle, Simply shake her to listen. I find that it makes slightly different noise is shaken sideways then if shaken back and forth. You can feel the rattle inside the head about the size of a 50 pence piece. Again it is totally secure and no way for it to come out from the head area.
On the label it says you can machine wash on a cool wash which I'm sure will come in handy in the near future.
My daughter is obviously unable to make her own comments about her doll but she does give it her attention when she can hear the rattle and also she tends to stare at it where I think the colours attract her to it.
This isn't just going to be a baby toy as it will last a long while and I'm sure stay with her for many years to come.
If you read my reviews regularly you will see I often buy the 2 for £15 toys from Argos often. This is where I purchased this lovely little doll for my daughter when she was just 3 months old and her brother wanted a Thomas toy from the same deal. I do not find there is much choice for young babies so when I seen this I thought it would be perfect.
The doll was clearly on display in the box so there was no let down when getting the product home as we had already seen it. It is a small so it is easy for young children to hold and bright pink in colour. Every part of the doll is soft and as everything is sown in and there is no plastic there are no hazardous parts and therefore suitable from birth.
It has a smiley face with blue eyes which are all sown in. The dolls body is fluffy and in the middle of the dolls chest is a sign saying baby's first doll.this has a sown square around it and the inside of the sign is a different material soft to touch. At the bottom of the dolls feet the colour changes to yellow with green circles and yet again is a different silky material. It has 2 pieces of ribbon curled poking out of her hat for hair and also has a green ribbon tied around the ankle of each foot. This is what is so perfect about this doll it is safe very very soft yet has many different materials to satisfy babies need of learning about different textures.
Also inside the dolls head is a rattle you can not see it but when you shake the doll a little you can hear the rattle. As my daughter gets so much use out of the doll it often gets very mucky but that is fine as you can just put it in the wash and it comes back out brand new. This doll is also compatible with the fisher price first stroller which we afterwards brought my daughter when she was a little older.
I would recommend this doll to anyone it is perfect from birth as it is so soft and perfectly sized for young hands. My daughter has had it from 3 months and is now 22 months and this goes everywhere with her. It is easy to wash and a very lovable doll at £9.99 it has been a well loved toy.
