My daughters birthday is in January, which makes buying presents for her a little difficult, usually she has already received all the main gifts for Christmas and I am then found scouring the January sales with very little money for birthday presents for her. Then half way thought the year she has grown too old for these toys and doesn't have much to play with. When she turned two I decided to just buy her a few presents for her Birthday and buy her a "big" present during the summer and this seems to be working out much better. Some relatives have also jumped on-board and we now receive Amazon vouchers instead of gifts to put towards getting her a summer birthday toy.
This year I decided to buy my daughter the Sylvanian Families dolls house "Larchwood Lodge", the house didnt come with any figures or accessories so my daughter and I began looking on Amazon for some furniture. Of course she also needed a family to live in the house, she chose the Ginger Cat family which I reviewed a few days ago. We also spotted the Ginger Cat baby and decided to add it to the basket.
The item came packaged in a cardboard box with a clear plastic front through which the little Ginger Cat baby could clearly be seen inside. General information is given on the back including warnings, an age recommendation of 4+ is given as the product may contain small parts. Thankfully the figure was easily removed from the packaging as there were no annoying plastic ties to have to deal with.
The Ginger Cat baby measures approx 4.5cm. She looks similar to the rest of the family except she is obviously a lot smaller. She has ginger soft and fuzzy feeling fur which is lovely too touch. The figure is fully posable and my daughter has no problems moving her about or getting her to stand / sit. She comes wearing a one piece romper suit, although ours was pink not yellow as stated in the Amazon blurb. My daughter finds it easy enough to remove the romper from the figure but does have difficulty getting it back on again and often asks me for help doing this, there is no velcro fastening on the back of the suit which is a little annoying.
Included in the set is a baby bottle and crib. The baby bottle is plastic and very very small, I am really surprised it hasn't yet been lost. The crib is plastic although made to look like it is wooden, it is of a good quality and the baby fits in it well, it also rocks slightly which is nice. However, my daughter was very disappointed that it didn't come with any sort of bed covers or pillow and declared that her little Ginger Cat baby would be very cold at night, we ended up making some ourselves. Sylvanian Family products are well known for their attention to detail so I was very surprised that the simple addition of bed covers for the crib was overlooked.
My daughter really loves playing with the ginger cat baby and it is a perfect size for her little hands. She especially enjoys feeding the baby its milk then putting it down in its crib for a nap. I think its a great addition to the ginger cat family, although perhaps not an essential one. My daughter also wants a Sylvanian Families pram for the baby, but she will just have to wait to see what Santa brings her.
For £5.00*, this is a cute quality figure that most young children will love, however I wouldn't say it was essential for a collection. I give it 4 Dooyoo stars out of 5, knocking one off for the lack of bedding for the crib.
