“ Brand: Golden Bear / Type: Doll „
I brought my daughter a giggling Lola doll as a stocking filler last christmas. Being a big Charlie and (particularly) Lola fan I figured she would love it.
Charlie and Lola started off as a series of childrens books written by Lauren Child. It is now better known as a childrens television programme which is primarily shown on CBeebies but is also growing in success around the world.
I brought the giggling Lola doll from Amazon.co.uk for £8.99 which is quite reasonable. If you shop around you might be able to get it cheaper elsewhere, although from what I understand it is generally between £6.00 - £9.00.
There is also a Charlie version but I have not tried this doll and don't know what it's like or what sounds it makes.
The doll is recommended for children 3+ although I can't see many or any dangers of the toy. It does not come in any packaging, it just has a tag on which recommends removing it before you give the doll to a child.
Lola wears a pink, red and orange long sleeved striped shirt, grey trousers and blue shoes with white soles. Her hair is made of light yellow felt which has little blue bows in. She has a straight face and both of her eyes are looking sidewards. She looks just like she's meant to (in the books/programmes). There is a velcro strip on the back of her shirt and her shirt can also be removed.
The doll is made from soft but durable and tough fabric and can be easily wiped down, although it can't be machine washed as it has batteries. It stands at around 8 or 9 inches tall and the legs and arms are flexible.
When you press Lola's tummy (it doesn't need much force at all) she makes a cute giggling sound, although it is a little quiet and can be hard to hear if there is a lot of surrounding noise. Batteries are included but cannot be replaced. There is no way of reaching the battery compartment either. The life expectancy is supposed to be 6 months, which doesn't seem like a lot to me.
Overall the good points of this toy are it's a nice addition to the Charlie and Lola collection, it's durable and safe, it is quite sweet and a nice pocket toy (my daughter sometimes takes her out on car journeys and such).
The bad points of this toy is that batteries can't be replaced and life expectancy is not long, doesn't make any other noices except giggling, giggling is a little quiet and to be honest is not great value for money at £8.99.
I'm torn as to whether I should give it 2 or 3 stars but I'll give it 3 as lots of children like Charlie and Lola and would value this toy more than an adult would.
This giggling Lola small soft toy comes complete with swing ticket and is based on one of the main characters from the extremely popular programme. The doll is made from soft durable fabric and is the perfect pocket money toy for young fans of the programme.
