Littlest HonestBob is a big Noddy fan. I'm not really sure why, I think it must be the big head and brightly coloured clothes that attract him. Personally I find the Noddy TV programme to be a little too moralising; Noddy is naughty - Noddy suffers the consequences - someone guides Noddy - Noddy becomes a better boy for it all. Littlest HonestBob isn't morally developed enough yet to get the gist of the storylines, so I reckon it's simply the look of Noddy and his yellow car that he likes.
Whatever the reason, Littles HonestBob loves Noddy and gets all excited when he sees him, either on telly or on display in a shop. Hence, when I discovered this Singing Noddy Doll in Woolworths for £9.99 I (I mean Littlest HonestBob!) had to have him.
The doll is 41cm tall. It rarely stands however as it cannot stand unaided (being a soft toy) and the singing feature works better whilst sitting as Noddy nods his head along to the music and holding him in a standing position interferes with the nodding. Noddy is a very clever boy, he doesn't need to move his lips when singing, you just squeeze his right hand (find the internal button in the process) and he starts nodding his head while a tune plays. He only has one tune, 'Make Way for Noddy' and after a while this gets a little repetitive for Mum, however, Littlest HonestBob will happily listen to it over and over and over again (groan).
Whilst this Noddy is quite limited in play features for children, it has offered us adults several additional moments of entertainment. This is due to the nature of Noddy's nodding. If laid on his front the enlarged head causes the doll to perform a press-up like motion and, you guessed it, with another doll (in this case a Manchester United Mascot Teddy) placed beneath him Noddy looks like he's (well, you can figure that one out for yourself!). A fairly juvenile pursuit, but we had to giggle the first time Littlest HonestBob innocently got him in this position!
There isn't much to this toy. The electronics inside make him hard to cuddle, the tune is repetitive and the mechanism moving the head is quite loud, but Littlest HonestBob loves him and that's what counts.
Squeeze Noddy's hand and watch him nod along to his famous Noddy theme song.
