Yes, My Little Pony is still going strong despite over two decades passing. My seven year old daughter and her friends are all My Little Pony insane, so I guess it's no huge surprise that topping her birthday wishes list was anything My Little Pony. Billed as part of the Ponyville playsets, this is not one of the miniature sized Pony props, but rather one to be played with the full sized playsets.
It's quite well constructed, with the ice cream truck being fairly sturdy, though abuse will no doubt still cause breakage, especially to the swivelling ice cream cone on the top of the wagon. Though the playset says 3 and up, I also would not advise this if you have children about who can pick up stray bits of toy that get left about, as the ice creams and scoop could be swallowed, but are large enough to catch in the throat with unpleasant consequences. Other than those concerns, its a real treat of toy, as special Pony Rainbow Swirl drives about in her ice cream truck, delivering treats to all her Pony friends. Unlike most Ponies, this edition of Rainbow Swirl has special poseable legs, so that she can actually sit in the driver's seat. Included are some ice cream cones which clip onto Pony legs, and an ice cream scoop so you can pretend to serve the ice cream. The easy to understand pictorial instructions show how to twizzle the ice cream cone on top of the van, flip about the driver's seat, and turn the van into a parlour with a second story seating area, adding to the fun. And the Ponies will definitely know Rainbow Swirl is bringing delicious things their way, as the front left wheel musically chimes as the van is pushed along.
Being an ice cream truck, my daughter and her friends have thought of many ways to use this in their pretend scenarios taking place in Ponyland. From catering a party at Dream Castle, to serving refreshments at a tournament at the show stables, to supplying cool refreshments at the beach and amusement park at Butterfly Island, Rainbow Swirl and this van have sure gotten around. Being a vehicle, little brother is loathe to be out of the play action, often butting in to be the one pushing the van about the room from place to place having as much fun as the girls are.
We paid about £12 for this at Amazon, and I have to say its been well worth the money, and certainly has not disappointed my daughter either. Considering a Pony is about £5 on its own, this actually is pretty good value, and one that we hope to repeat when we buy the next part of Ponyville for her ever growing, but certainly well played with and appreciated, collection.
Place Rainbow Swirl pony behind the wheel and roll this frozen treat truck forward to ring the bell! It looks like an ice cream truck but by the push of a button it magically transforms into an ice cream shop! Equipped with a booth to sit in, a counter so the Ponies can make ice cream cones, delicious cones and an ice cream scoop. Poseable pony figure included.
