Mattel Barbie Glam Convertible
Advantages: Durable, easy to fit dolls in, seatbelts undo, PINK! New model has flexible rubber wing mirrors
Disadvantages: Doors don't open, drivebility is less technical than some toy cars, stickers a bit cheap looking
My daughter was bought the new glam convertible for Christmas, but already has the old version. This new one is a lighter pink colour than the other, which looks quite nice as it has a glittery finish to it. Most of the features are the same, but the styling is slightly different.
The seatbelts are still black cross-body ones, which can be pulled out of their slots to "undo" them, and it is easy to slide any Barbie sized dolls into each of the two seats. The steering wheel spins, but the doors do not open on either the new or old model, which is a shame for playability but probably good for durability. There are stickers on the wheels, lights, numberplate, dashboard etc, which seem to stay put but look a bit cheap. The seat covers on the old model were black and white patterned, while on the new model they are pink and white patterned. To be honest, the old ones were slightly nicer, but I guess it's personal taste.
One improvement is that the wing mirrors on the new version and rubbery and flexible, rather than the old plastic ones - we never had a problem, but I imagine the old ones are easy to break whereas the new ones are more durable.
The car drives quite well across different floor surfaces, but as a playset toy rather than a manouverable, technical vehicle. I have a boy and two girls, and the boy has several car toys which are technically better to play with in terms of driveability and quality. However, this one is perfect for what it is intended - a girly, pretty "glam" car for Barbies to sit and ride in.
The old model has lasted us years and is still going strong, so I can vouch for the durability of Barbie cars with regular play.
Summary: A great Barbie accessory with good play value, well made and appealing to many little girls
