“ Brand: Mattel / Type: Doll „
My daughter went through a phase when she was completely Barbie mad! Everywhere I turned in my house, I would see a barbie looking up at me. She even had a barbie bedroom. So when this pegasus styling head came on the market, just before christmas, I knew she would be thrilled to have this.
Barbie Pegasus head was inspired by the film Barbie and the Princess Pegasus. Where Barbie was transported into a mystical world where her source of friendship and transport was provided by this beautiful horselike figure. Of course, my daughter was transfixed to this film and therefore knew the character of Pegasus. However, those who are not that offay with Barbie films, may not have any clue what this pegasus head has got to do with Barbie!
So to the product itself. Firstly it was a nightmare to get hold of. It seemed that all the little girls in the entire universe wanted this Pegasus head for Christmas. It became rather an impossible challenge trying to track one down. I think I had the whole of my village looking out for one of these damn horses heads. Finally I was able to track one down in Argos. I paid around £20 for this item. I would have been happy to have paid double though, because after all it was for my baby.
I think this is where the problem lies. Manufacturers know that parents will more often than not forl out lots of money for rather poorly made products. Especially if their child is sucked in by the advertising of this product. I had watched an advert for this pegasus head a few weeks before with my daughter and even I wanted one by the end of the ad. It made the pegasus head look almost real. You could change it's hair colour with the straightener included. You could share makeup with it, youcould braid it's hair and put on a tiara and other hair accesories. In reality this pegasus head fell well short of the mark.
The pegasus head came in a huge overly packaged box. Half of Christmas morning was spent trying to undo the irritating pieces of plastic wire that attatched the head to the box. When the pegasus head was finally free of the packaging, I was shocked by how light the product was. The hair of this pegasus head was really cheap and synthetic and was rather an awful senstion to touch.
The accesories which came with this pegasus head was really shocking. For the money, I was expecting better quality, I was very disappointed with the reality of what was included. Firstly the cheapy hair straighteners looked tacky. Notonly did they look rubbish, but they were rubbish they didn't work. The hair only changed colour when my daughter applied warm water to the hair.
Then there was the two tiaras, one for the pegasus, one for your child. Well, I have bought much better quality tiaras in the pound shop on many occasions. The tiaras looked rubbish and cheap and wouldn't stsy fixed onto the pegasus dolls head.
The makeup that was included was again very cheap and disappointing. The colours were quite brash and the was only enough to apply the makeup to the head a couple of times.
I was so disappointed with this Barbie product. My daughter enjoyed playing with it. But It was found at the bottom of her Barbie pop up toy bin a week later. There is not enough substance within this product to hold attention. Apart from a plastic horses head, there is not much else to say about this product. I wouldn't recommend buying this, it is a really poor product for the money. I have seen similar horses up in Asda for half the price with a whole variety of accesories. I would buy one of those instead.
Why I bought this?
This is one of the two things my daughter asked Santa for this past Christmas and was the only thing I found almost impossible to get for her! She had got the Barbie and the Magic of Pegasus DVD for her birthday on the 9th November and ever since she asked for the Shiver Teddy Bear and a Pegasus Pony!
She saw this advertised on TV a million and one times and every single time she said I want that So being the brilliant mum I am, I set out at the end of November to start my Christmas shopping .First stop Woolworths . Picked up a couple of things and saw the Princess Annika Barbie doll (which I had already bought on special offer along with the DVD) which reminded me that I had to get the pony too. Searching the many aisles though I could not see this anywhere in the store . Off to customer services, Yes you can order it but it will cost another £5 for delivery! No thanks I said Ill wait till it comes back in stock or check Argos.
That night I checked Argos online so I could reserve a few things ..This was sold out here too . I checked this every single day from that day onwards but still nothing. This went on right up until the Thursday before Christmas when I on the off chance done another check online and hey presto they were finally in stock, I reserved my pony and dashed into town to pick it up before their computers broke down or something( Hey I wasnt taking any chances)
Anyway Christmas morning my little darling opened all of her presents and her little face lit right up when she opened this.
What is the Pegasus Groom & Glam Style Head?
In the Barbie and the Magic of Pegasus DVD, Pegasus (Brietta) is the long lost sister of Princess Annika (Barbie) who has been turned into a magical flying Pegasus horse by an evil magician.
This toy is very similar to all of the usual styling dolls heads but the one difference is that its a ponys head instead of a dolls. She has long synthetic hair which is white with lilac highlights. The lilac highlights are meant to change colour to bright pink when you run the little pair of toy straighteners through the hair, but Ive found that this doesnt work! The colour does change when you touch the hair though, but its more from the heat of your hand rather than the straighteners help that does this.
My little girl was a bit disappointed in this, as was I!
Another thing which annoyed me was that when you brushed the hair it seemed to come away in little clumps, you have to be very very careful and brush hair very lightly if you dont want to lose it all! It is also very easily tangled.
This comes a few little hair accessories which to be honest are not all that great either, They are quite flimsy and easily broken. There is a little sheet of gemstone stickers which are meant to either stick on the pony or for your little one to wear on her face, these were ok but only had about 10 stickers so not brilliant. These also didn't stick for very long!
Also in the box is a little plastic tiara that your little girl is meant to wear, there are actually 2 of these, one for the pony and one for the child, but my little girl complained it was digging into her head so not much good there either.
There is a lip gloss in the pack which I though looked ok, it was a nice shade of pink and my little girl immediately dipped her finger in and popped a little drop on her lips and smeared some onto the ponys mouth too hmmmm not much left in the pot after that! So not good value there either.
There is a little make up wand, similar to one you get in eyeshadows, and a little pot that you are meant to put icy cold water in .simply dip the wand into the cold water and smear on to the ponys eyelids, they magically turn from pink to purple woohoo something which actually worked!
If I were you Id buy a cheaper and more value for money Girls World styling head, This is an expensive toy but is cheaply made in my opinion and you are really only paying for the Barbie name! Although you can actually buy Barbie heads for much cheaper too.
This is £24.99 in Woolworths and Toys R Us.
I paid £19.99 in Argos 3 days before Christmas, It was very hard to get so I assume it was selling well?
This was reduced in Argos to £12.49 straight after Christmas!! It is not in the new Argos catalogue at all, and is out of stock in Toys R Us and can't seem to fins it in Woolies either.....(wonder if they had lots of complaints then?)
I do not recommend this toy at all, The only joy my daughter really gets from it is to use it along with her other toys from the Barbie and the Magic of Pegasus series, she sits her Barbie dolls on the back of the pony and pretends they can fly!
The Pegasus Styling Head has beautiful, long colour change hair and lots of accessories. For ages 3.
