      Very helpful

      Another over priced barbie toy

From the age of knowing what she wants, Little Miss has had a pink fest. Part and parcel of this is, of course, a love of Barbie...didn't she have a shade of pink named after her?

Now, with Christmas around the corner, I wonder how many more things she can possibly need. One of the things she does want for Christmas is Tawny horse, which is the horse this head is styled on... in fact, apparantly, this is Tawny, without the body and legs.

      ~~What is it?~~

Basically, the head of a horse...without the body. It's a styling head, so no body. The head is almost 12" from tip of ears to neck, so it's not small.

The horse of course does have beautiful big blue eyes and impossibly long eye lashes, along with a blonde flowing mane.

When the head comes to you, it comes in a box with the head surrounded by hair accessories- slides, bows and a brush. The horse is already wearing a rose bud hair band, and comes complete with eye shadow and applicator, as well as lip gloss and a straightening implement (for her hair, naturally). Of course, little ones don't think it's strange to be applying eye shadow or hair accessories to a plastic horse's head!

Now this is the clever part...add icy water and the blonde mane turns pink. Great, the pink theme. Little Miss was a tad reluctant at first to wet Tawny's mane, but once she saw the magical change, she was ok about it all. Actually, it's not as cold as it sounds, because the water can be merely cold rather than icy. The change is, to a child's eyes, quite magical, but it is also quite subtle, kind of pink streaks rather than a full mane of shocking pink hair.

Due to small parts, in the form of the hair accessories, this isn't suitable for children under 3 years.

      ~~Price and Availability~~

RRP is £24.99, but it is available from amazon for about £19.

I think for what it is, it is expensive, but as ever, we pay for the Barbie name.

      ~~Made by…~~

As with lots of these toys, this one is made by Mattel, but check out www.barbie.co.uk for more information

      ~~What We Think~~

Well, being Barbie and girly, this was always sure to be a hit. We already had two styling heads in the house (as in people) but the novelty of a horse proved hard to resist.

The hair accessories and hair colour can be changed, as well as eye and lip colour, so ring the changes on a daily basis.

Once children are shown how to change the hair colour, it's actually quite simple for them to do themselves. We just have to check the bathroom for potential floods when she leaves the tap running. The novelty of the hair change did wear thin, and now Tawny tends to stay blonde- I don't think she enjoyed waiting for the hair to dry.

One thing which I have to say is that the fiddly little hair accessories are easy to lose and hoover up. So, to avoid any disappointment, we buy Tawny accessories, so there is a permanent supply. This means that Tawny can change her colour scheme regularly. The same goes for the jewels; these were lost fairly quickly, but replacements are easy to find in shops which sell hair accessories.

Another problem is that the eye shadow and the lip gloss do run out easily...usually on second or third applicatiion, so be prepared for your make up to seen on the horse. Actually she looks quite good in some of my colours, although the application leaves alot to be desired. Obviously Little Miss hasn't quite grasped the maxim "less is more".

Little Miss does enjoy playing with this head, and her and her friends frequently brush Tawny's mane and do her hair and make up. Any grumbles I have are from an adult perspective...this is a toy which will prove a hit with barbie fans

      Thanks for reading.

      Daniela xx
