A girl can get lost in a Barbie world.

As a child I never had Sindy or Barbie dolls in fact I did only have 2 dolls I did not really like dolls I preferred to climb trees damn ditches, make dens.

I am sure you all know what a Barbie doll is, but for those of you that do not, here goes. In the 1950’s Ruth Handler noticed her daughter Barbie playing with paper dolls she had cut out the dolls were Adult. So Ruth created the fashion doll Barbie. Mattel produce the plastic doll.

The Barbie doll is slim has gorgeous hair big bosoms everything a girl wants to be.
Barbie has everything a girl wants. She has a sports car and a beach buggy; she has a horse, which has a musical stable. Barbie even has 2 carriages one with a horse one a unicorn. Barbie even has2 carriages one with a horse one with a unicorn

She has a house that you can decorate in style adding a vanity parlour; just to make sure she looks her best.
Barbie has a puppy parlour so she can groom her pet. Barbie can be a doctor she has a doctors uniform and accessories. She can take care of her amazingly gorgeous boyfriend Ken. Who can be her prince, or surprise her with flowers is a dashing prince charming.
I will not go on listing the endless luxuries Barbie has. But her wardrobe is amazing a dress for every occasion.

As well as the doll and her life’s objects you can buy a Barbie cycle helmet or a Barbie sleeping bag.
If you invite your friends to a birthday party there are Barbie paper plates mugs, tablecloths. There are Barbie lucky bags for your friends to take home too.

There are a couple of sites on the Internet that lets you dress Barbie and have adventure games with her. They look fair for a Barbie girl.

I am not sure but I do have some worries about Barbie raising the expectations about life of the children who play with her.

In 2002 Barbie was banned in Russia it was thought that Barbie encouraged s
exual ideas in young children and foistered paranoia about having slim bodies. This information I acquired from the guardian I am not sure of the ban is still in place.

On the whole I think Barbie is ok as long as you do not let your child play exclusively with her.

Doll play is a good way for children to live out there own experiences and overcoming fears.
Doll play is a good way to live out dreams, getting married to prince charming and driving away in a horse driven carriage.
A basic Barbie like the ballerina costs about £12-£3 the princess Barbie about £19

Barbie is not just a white girl any more in 2002 a multi ethnic doll Kayla was introduced and there is a black doll Chrissie. This move to ethnic dolls I think was a good thing.

If anyone can knit or sew there are plenty of Barbie clothes patterns available.
If you are a good do it yourself’er you could make a house for her, my dad made sally’s Barbie house. A child could even make its own out of a large cardboard box.
