My daughter got this for her 3rd birthday along with the rest of the gang and she loves them all!!! Jessie is great, well made and very much like the character on the films! She sleeps with her every night and tries to take her every where we go!! Brilliant design and very good value for money!!! Has lasted well and even survived a sponge bath! My daughter loves the phrases and *yodelling* that Jessie does which is brilliant!! nothing much more to say other than absolutely amazing toy for the money!
Like most young children my daughter loves Toy Story and like most young girls her favourite toy/character from Toy Story is Jessie (the cowgirl), so she was absolutely thrilled to receive a Jessie doll for her birthday!
There are lots of different variations of this doll by different manufacturers and sold in various shops, however we decided on the Mattel Jessie doll. It cost £28.00 (although you may find it cheaper now) and was brought from Tesco. The doll came in a nicely decorated box, with a hole in the back to test out her pullstring (and clear front to see exactly what you were getting).
The doll looks identical to how Jessie does in the films. She is approximately 30cm tall and has long, slim, dangley legs. She also has brown plastic cowboy boots on (which cannot be removed), blue jeans with cow print chaps, belt with buckle (which can be removed), a white shirt with red/yellow pattern and buttons. All of her clothes are made of fibres (polyester?) and her skin is made of plastic. Her face looks just as you would expect - big green eyes, red eyebrows, little nose, big smiling mouth and not forgetting her lovely red yarn hair (which is pulled back in to a plait). Her hair can't be unplaited so you cannot brush or style her hair - not a problem for me as I know she would end up looking like a mess in no time! She also comes with a plastic orange cowboy hat. The attention to detail is very good and this is certainly the best Jessie lookalike I have seen.
There is a pullstring on Jessie's back (also like the films). It doesn't pull out as far as expected (only about an inch) which is good for safety reasons. She has a number of different sounds which include 'Yodelayheehoo!', 'Blast us to smithereens, that there's dynamite!', 'That critter needs help!', 'Okay cowboy', 'Yeeee-hah!', 'Sweet mother of Abraham Lincoln!'. They are all quotes from the film and are all Jessie's actual voice. The sound box/battery compartment can also be found on Jessie's back, you can only reach the battery compartment with a screwdriver and the batteries (included) are still going strong after more than 2 years.
It's a unisex toy so would be enjoyed by both girls and boys (although by girls the most I expect) and the age recommendation is 3+ years (possibly due to a few small parts).
My daughter absolutely adores her Jessie doll. She collects Toy Story toys and this is definitely her favourite one. She will often get her Toy Story collection together and recreate scenes from the films or make up her own little stories! She takes her Jessie everywhere with her - to bed, in the car, on holiday. She is lightweight and because she's so floppy and bendy she is perfect for taking out and about (I can fold her up and stick her in my bag if necessary!). My daughter received Jessie for her third birthday and she is now 5, so Jessie has been with us for more than 2 years and I must say, she is still in very good condition - no rips/tears etc. Her hair has recently become slightly bobbly but the bobbles are easily picked off. The biggest downside for me is that Jessie has a lot of white on her outfit (shirt and chaps) and because my daughter plays with her Jessie so much, she does tend to get quite grubby. She cannot be machine washed so I often find myself having to sponge her down.
Overall £28 for a doll which essentially does nothing but makes sounds may seem quite steep but I'm very happy with my purchase. It looks like Jessie, it sounds like Jessie, it's good quality and my daughter loves it!
There are various models of Jessie the cowgirl available in toystores at the moment. The product I am reviewing is the doll currently on sale at the Disney store for £20.
If you have read my Buzz Lightyear toy review, you will be aware that Disney Store are currently selling their Toy Story 3 characters for £20 as opposed to the other high street shops who retail them for around the £40 mark. My daughter was keen to buy the Jessie doll, and we had seen the on sale in The Entertainer for £40. The only difference between their model and this one was that the Disney Store doll has plastic moulded hair, whereas the more expensive doll has proper "yarn" hair. I didn't think that this justified paying an extra £20, and luckily my daughter agreed and we bought the Disney Store version.
My daughter is not really into dolls, but really loves her Jessie doll, who has pride of place in her bed! The doll has a very good likeness to the character in the movie, and the expression on the face is almost identical to the doll in the scene in Toy Story 2 when she sings "When somebody loved me". I will describe the doll in detail, starting with the hat!
The hat is made from soft plastic, with a white stitch effect around the edge. There is a peice of red elastic on the bottom of the hat which loops around Jessie's ponytail to help keep the hat secure, but it doesn't really need this as the hat stays put quite well by itself.
The doll's head and hair are made from plastic. Her hair is in a plait, which comes midway down her back. She has a really smiley face, and big green eyes. Her cheeks have a slight blush to them.
Her body is made from stuffed fabric, but has a hard feel to it because it contains the sound box. On her back she has a pull string, the same as Woody. She speaks over 20 phrases in the original voice from the movie. Typical sayings are "C'mon, we got critters to save, let's go!" and "I like ridin' and ropin' and yodellin', what do you like to do?". Her hands are made from the same sort of plastic as the head. Her shirt is made from soft cottony material and has 2 buttons on the front. There is yellow velvet detail on the front of the shirt and on the sleeves. You can open the doll my means of the velcro fastener along the top of her jeans, where you can access the battery compartment (in her bottom!). She takes button style batteries rather than the AA type.
The doll wears jeans, with a plastic belt around the top. She wears cowskin chaps over her jeans, which are sewn in at the top and fastened with elastic at the bottom. These are made from a similar textured fabric to the sleeve detail.
To round things off, Jessie wears a pair of cute plastic cowgirl boots, with a cactus etched into the side. My daughter has written her name on the bottom of Jessie's boot, because she loves her so much. The nice thing about this toy is that it is in proportion to the other Toy Story characters available. We have a Woody toy that we bought from ELC, and she is about the same height, despite the fact that they were from different shops. This means that it is easy to play with these toys as they are all in similar proportions to the actual toys in the film.
This is by far my daughter's favourite toy. She is 7, but I think that this toy would appeal to girls between 2 and 9 years old. She takes the doll to bed and plays imaginative story games with her and the other toys. She takes the doll everywhere with her when we go out. Jessie is a fabulous toy and a great addition to our Toy Story collection.
