Blue Nosed bear also known as Tatty teddy or scruffy ted has always been a character which I have liked, I think the bears are very cute and have collected rather a few soft toy ones over the years. Last year I saw an advert for the new Blue Nosed friends play house and had remarked that they had extended the range to my Mam only to find that she bought me this little figurine as a birthday present and has since added a couple for Christmas too.
For the purposes of the review I have looked up what the figure costs and at the moment it is selling at £12.49 on amazon with a couple of pound delivery charge, I would imagine you would also find these figures in jewellery stores.
The little sheep came with a collector's card and brochure and he is number 12 in the Blue Nosed friends series. The sheep is about 6cms in height and he came in a little box which of course displays the name of the maker and the name of the contents, the box was see through on the front so that you can leave your little figure inside to display him but I personally have taken him out of the box as I like to be able to see him in his full glory.
The sheep is super cute in my opinion, he is an off white colour and the detailing on him is fantastic, apparently the figures are all hand painted rather than being mass produced and he is made from resin. The sheep has a really sad looking face and of course his nose is blue hence the name, he has his front paws brought together as if he is praying for something, he has little patches which are made to look like they are stitched on just like the original blue nosed bear and the quality of him is outstanding.
I think this guy is really cute and he stands on my mantelpiece with a couple more from the series, I have never been one for collecting ornaments but really like this range the only problem I have with him is that his fur is a sort of stippled effect meaning here are lots of little dimples on him and these seem to allow dust to get stuck so he does often need a decent clean. I give this one 4 stars from 5 due to the cleaning job he needs so often and I for one hate extra cleaning.
Me To You - Cottonsocks Figurine
Many of you will be familiar with the Blue Nose bear, also known as the Me to You bears, but you may not realise that more recently the range of Blue Nose Bear products has been extended to include the Blue Nose Friends. The Blue Nose Friends are a range of other animals including sheep, penguins and even Christmas reindeer who also have little blue noses and the same grey fur that the original Blue Nose Bear's have. The characters are available in a range of cuddly toys and figurines.
The Me To You Cottonsocks Figurine is part of the Blue Nose Bear and Friends collection. My purchase of this figurine was very much an 'impulse buy'. While standing waiting in a queue in Clinton Cards I spotted some small Blue Nose Bear boxes on the bottom shelf with sale stickers on, so, naturally I am a sucker for a bargain and for Blue Nose Bear's and I found myself forgetting I was in a queue and kneeling on the floor searching though the boxes. Eventually I decided that Cottonsocks the sheep was the cutest of them all and rejoined the queue to make my purchase.
** Cottonsocks The Sheep **
Cottonsocks is a sheep and came packaged in a nicely decorated Me to You cardboard box with a clear plastic viewing window on the front. The box had various safety information on the reverse as well as the contact details for the company who make Me to You Products, Carte Blanche.
Upon opening the box and removing Cottonsocks I was quite surprised to find that although the figurine is small it is still quite chunky and heavy for the size of it. The box and plastic packaging are all recyclable, but they are also quite nice so I kept mine.
Cottonsocks is only around 1 inch in size, but this add's to his cuteness! He is mainly cream in colour with grey paws, two black dots for eyes, slanted lines for eyebrows and of course the blue nose. Like the blue nose bears Cottonsocks also has three grey squares on him that have been made to look like patches that have been sewn on, one is on his belly, another is on his bum and the other is on his head. His woolly sheep coat looks quite realistic by a large amount of detail that has been done in the form of swirls and squiggles to create the curly woolly image of a sheep's coat.
Cottonsocks is sitting in an upright position with his head and ears slightly tiled forward and a slightly forlorn expression. He is holding his paws together in front of him. I think all in all Cottonsocks looks like he feels a little bit sorry for himself and is giving the 'puppy dog eyes' look and this was what made me choose him above the other figurines available.
Like all Me to You products I have ever owned Cottonsocks is great quality and is really well made. I have had him since April 2011 and in that time he has pretty much sat on a shelf looking at me and making me smile.
The guidance age for this figurine is 3+. I would say this is about right so long as you keep an eye on Cottonsocks ears as I think they are the only part that could be broken off with some force or a fall. Cottonsocks has no sharp edges and is generally a chunky little figurine. I would say he is more for decoration than to play with though.
Overall, I think Cottonsocks is the best £1.25 I have ever spent! He is just cute and automatically puts a smile on my face. I am tempted to buy a cuddly version of him, but I know I would never put it down!
I bought Cottonsocks for £1.25 in Clinton Cards in April 2011, he was reduced from £7.99 so I definitely got a bargain here! After doing a quick search online I can see there are Cottonsocks figurines available in a variety of sizes and poses including the one I have and they are around the £7 mark depending on the size and pose.
Thanks for reading! :)
