      Very helpful

a nice idea for a hot day

Just before we went on holiday this summer, my daughter was bought the Polly Pocket ice cream water park play set to take with us. The reasoning behind the gift was that she could play with it by the pool to keep her amused.

In the box you receive a brightly coloured plastic play set that arrives with you in sections to enable it to fit in the box. It's fairly easy to slot together and feels sturdy enough when connected up. The whole set is in around four large sections with plenty of smaller add on's to fit in and on after.
The play set is essentially a swimming pool with a slide, but designed around an ice cream theme. The main section of the pool that leads to the slide is an ice cream cone and Polly Pockets sits on top the ice cream at the very top of the set. The water feature squirter is in fact a cup with straw, and there are lolly pop designs around the edge of the play set.
Aesthetically it's a pretty play set to look at, which would appeal to many girls over the age of four year.

The extras in the box start to get smaller once the main unit is assembled. As you may guess this is due to it being a Polly Pocket set, and the clue is in the word pocket for anyone not au fait with Polly Pocket.
Polly herself is approx 5cm tall, with the whole play set being around 30cm tall. Other features of the play set include a swing that sits at the top of the set for Polly to play on. This is quite a fragile piece of the set and the swing is constructed from a small plastic seat and two tiny swing arms. They all connect together well and stay in place; however you wouldn't want to let a young child play with this set unattended.

Immediately we found there were plenty of features to this set which was nice that it's not just a piece of plastic tat with nothing to do with Polly.
Whilst imagination is obviously the key to any play set, there are aids to help the child play such as a dunk tank into the pool, a squirter as mentioned from the cup, a diving board, slide, and of course the fact that water is involved in the set will make it very attractive to children.

We realised you can use this set without water, making it fine for indoor use, but to be honest it is better when you have some water as well. Polly's hair will change colour in the water which is something that amused my daughter immensely the first time she played with it.

Storing the play set after use is easy enough but to be honest it's better to leave it constructed rather than try to put it back into the box. The tiny pieces really are tiny and would be easily lost.
From a grown up's perspective, I was impressed at the quality of the toy, and the fact that it provides plenty for the child to do. I was unsure of the size of the pieces, but I soon realised a lot of children's toys come with small pieces so I just have to supervise when playing is in progress.
From a four year olds perspective, I know this set has been well loved in the six months or so we have had it in the house. It's been in the bath, in the garden on summer days, and also played with indoors without the water feature.

Priced at £14.99, I think this would be on the higher end of the scale for what I think its worth and would be happier if it was nearer the £10 mark, but it was a gift and has been well loved. Everything is still intact and nothing has broken, so all good.
