Silver Cross Ranger Pram
Advantages: Folds down, great quality
Disadvantages: Basket doesnt sit on the bottom securely
Ever since I was expecting with my daughter (who is now three!), my nan has said she will buy her a proper Silver Cross pram. The prices for the old style ones are astronomical so I told her to buy something more to her budget. She purchased this Silver Cross ranger pram.
The pram comes packaged inside quite a thin cardboard box. It was quite small so I imagined the pram coming in hundreds of pieces but I was wrong. The main body of the pram was already constructed and all I had to do was fit on the wheels and the shopping basket and it was ready to go.
The ranger pram is a little different from the normal black with a little bit of pattern Silver Cross prams, this one is mainly red in colour. With a red body and the hood and cover being red with white polka dots it certainly stands out. The main rods holding the pram in place are silver and black; I think the overall look of the pram is nice and girly, and nice not being pink! The storage basket on the bottom is made from black plastic. I'm not sure why, but it doesn't attach fully to the bottom of the pram, one end slides on but the other end is just left flapping around and it is prone to falling off so we only use it when we are at home.
The thing I like the most about the pram is that it can be folded down. My daughter loves taking dolls out when we go into town or for a walk and being able to fold this pram down allows me to fit it into the boot of the car without any trouble. Folding it down is a simple process and just involves moving a metal clasp on both sides and sliding the black cover up, once this is down it will lie in the flat position. It takes less than a minute and is easy to pick up once flat. This could also be handy for those that are short on storage space, when it's not in use it could be folded down and stored somewhere.
The age recommendation for the pram is 3-7 years. I think this is about right. My daughter received this on her third birthday and it seemed like the perfect size. She can only just see over the top of the hood when it's up so I wouldn't suggest buying this for younger children. The handle can be adjusted so that as your child grows older, you can move the handle in line with them growing. This is another simple process, press in the buttons on both sides and move the handle, voila!
The size seems to be perfect for the majority of my daughter's dolls, they all fit in the pram apart from her toddler doll, but that is to be expected! My daughter really loves her 'grown up' pram and it gets used a lot, inside and out. The pram is still in a great condition and there is no wear to the wheels even though it's used outside.
The Silver Cross ranger pram in red can be purchased from Amazon for £40. This is a huge different too the £300 odd old fashion Silver Cross my nan wanted to buy. I'd definitely recommend it as it's made to a high quality, head wearing and looks lovely. I love the fact it can be folded flat as it means I don't have to faff about trying to fit it into the car, it slides in easy.
Summary: A lovely grown up play pram at a small fraction of the price of old style Silver Cross prams
