Sleeping Beauty Singing Doll
Advantages: Good size, Very pretty, Good quality, Movable joints, Lovely song
Disadvantages: Hair gets tangled easily, Batteries don't last very long
My 5 year old is a massive Disney princess fan so was really pleased to receive a Sleeping Beauty Singing Doll for Christmas last year.
The Sleeping Beauty (also known as Princess Aurora) Singing Doll is a Disney Store Exclusive, which means you won't find it anywhere but The Disney Store. She comes packaged in a box, which is backed by cardboard and has plastic over the front. You can see exactly what you're getting and are also able to stick your finger inside the box to try out the sound.
The doll wears her trademark pink dress. The dress is 2 different shades of pink, has long sleeves, white collar and hangs down by her feet. It's made of a satin material and is really pretty. You can remove the dress by a velcro strip around the back of the doll (this also allows you access to the battery compartment). Other accessories include a gold necklace, pink high heel shoes and gold tiara - as these are small and removable, we have 'misplaced' them quite a few times. She also has pink knickers printed on to her, which means she won't be completely naked if her dress gets removed! She has very long golden blonde hair (complete with fringe) which is wavy. Her hair is gorgeous but to be honest seems a little too long - you would expect hair like this to be on a Rapunzel doll! The downside of her long locks are that it can get tangled and matted easily. I encourage my daughter to regularly brush her hair so the doll doesn't get ruined. The doll has a face full of make-up - perfect eyeshadow and eyeliner (with blue eyes), rosy cheeks and pink lips. This probably isn't the best influence on young girls, but she does look very pretty and the make-up isn't too OTT.
She has a small metal dot on her right hand, when the dot is pressed she sings 'Once Upon A Dream' which is the popular song that she sings in the film. The song is really easy to activate, even for little ones. The song/her voice is really lovely and authentic. My daughter loves the 'Once Upon A Dream' song and will often dance around with Sleeping Beauty as she sings!
All of the dolls joints are movable - her head moves around, her legs move, her arms move, her knees bend and her elbows bend. I like the fact she has bendable knees and elbows as this allows my daughter to put her in to positions which she can't do with other dolls (such as Barbie) - most dolls just have movable legs and arms, but not joints. This is really good for encouraging imaginative play.
The doll requires 3 x AG13 batteries (for the sound), which are included. Unfortunately the batteries run out just after a few months of moderate play and had to be replaced. The age recommendation for this doll is 3+ years.
When I first saw the doll I was surprised at how big it was. She is significantly taller and wider than most dolls of her sort. She is quite a lot bigger than an average sized Barbie doll. She seems like very good quality too - she can be bent in all different ways without breaking (or loosing a limb!), she is made from thick durable plastic, she can be wiped clean and her dress still has no marks or snags on.
The Sleeping Beauty Singing Doll can be brought from The Disney Store (or Disney Store website) for what I think is a very reasonable price - £20.00. I'm happy to recommend for fans of Sleeping Beauty/Disney Princesses.
Summary: A lovely doll for Sleeping Beauty fans.
