These are the cutest things I've ever seen: three identical meerkat babies who are only different from each other because they all have a different coloured outfit on. They're only small with the baby meerkats being only about 1" tall or they might be even smaller than that, despite their small stature they feel substantial when I handle them because the figures are solid and they are so well made that they even feel heavier than they really are.
The meerkats have all been given names (Penelope, Prudence and Peregrine Spotter), I usually think the Sylvanian families names suit the characters but I can't understand why these have been given such posh names!! I said to my boyfriend that it would have been more fun if they had been named after the Compare the Meerkat meerkats!! The outfits they are wearing are very cute, they feel like felt but I think the material is more durable than felt because I have some Sylvanian Families babies that are over 10 years old and they are wearing the same kind of outfit but even though they were played with a lot when I was younger none of the outfits have torn or look old in any way. There's a thin strip of lace around each of their necks and that makes the triplets look more dainty and babyish because it turns their very basic outfit into something that looks cuter and more like something you would dress a real baby in.
I love the expressions on the faces of the three meerkats because they have all got a surprised look with their mouths in an O shape and big eyes, they're very cute but don't look very much like any of the baby meerkats I saw at the zoo recently!! The colours are true to life but whenever I look at any Sylvanian Families figures I am always impressed that they are usually able to make the animals still look perfectly natural but have added the human characteristics so well that you can see them as both, I don't think the morphing technique works so well on these baby meerkats and now I've seen the rest of the meerkat family I don't think this was a very good animal to be made into a Sylvanian Families figure. They look lovely still and I love them but I think I would prefer meerkats that looked more natural because they don't fit it with other Sylvanian Families animals.
WHAT ARE THEY?
Three identical baby Meerkats from Sylvanian Families. They are very small at just over one inch tall and are all wearing a different colour romper suit with lace at the neck. The baby Meerkats do not come with feeding bottles or cribs.
WHAT I THINK
My daughter collects Sylvanian Families and when she expressed a love for the large Meerkat display at our local zoo I bought this set of babies as a treat. I don't think they are very well designed and look too cartoonish, the Meerkat colorings are good but even though they're very sweet I don't find them as lovable as my daughter does.
The arms and legs move so the baby Meerkats can sleep in one of the other cribs my daughter has. I've bought my daughter the other Meerkats to make up the family and she loves to play with them, the babies make up a good portion of her games because they are very cute looking and their romper suits can be removed and changed with different romper suits from other families.
They are easy to keep clean because the fur is brown so you can just wipe them clean. The small size of the babies makes them easily lost so you should make sure your child has one set place to play with them in, all the Sylvanian Family babies are the same size so this is a common problem. The Meerkat triplets are very well made and playing isn't going to damage them unless your child is very rough, losing one of them is the biggest worry for me. They are not for children under four years because they are so small that if a little child put them in their mouth they could choke.
THE MEERKAT TRIPLETS
3 Dooyoo Stars.
With the huge popularity of meerkats at the moment because of sources such as Compare the Meerkat.com and so on, it is hardly surprising that the world of Sylvania have produced their very own meerkat family.
A gorgeous three piece, the triplets are perfect for any little girl who loves the magical world of Sylvania. The meerkat family comes separately.
OK, now for the price. I paid £7.99 fore my daughter's meerkat family from the Early Learning Centre. This is quite expensive, but, in true Sylvanian Family style, the quality of the figures is second to none. They have a slight furry feel to them, pose-able head and arms, and their clothes are easy to get on and off and fasten using velcro. They are easy to stand up as the bottoms of their feet are very even and flat
The figures are solid, and robust feeling. The small features such as the tail, ears and eyes are stuck tight and you can sense that they will not come off. The clothes are really sweet, and are also tough. My daughter can be heavy handed, and has not yet managed to destroy the meerkats or their clothes.
I would fully recommend this toy for any little girl (or boy) who loves meerkats and/or Sylvanian families!
