Micro Babies are made by Tomy and are very small babies for children to play with. However these are not just any old babies because they are able to do lots of different things as we discovered when my daughter recently received the Bath Time Baby for her sixth birthday.
The micro baby comes in a small plastic container containing everything it needs which is not much. There is a small plastic baby wearing a blue nappy (I'm going to assume it's a boy!), a small bottle for it to drink from and what I assume is a shallow plastic bath. It does not look much at first glance but it's quite amazing when you discover all the different things this baby can do!
The baby has something which looks like a small hat on the top of his head but when you press this you actually turn the baby on. Immediately you do this a light goes on in the hat, the baby blinks and moves its arms and legs and you also hear some music. This is the baby showing that he or she is waking up!
Once the baby is turned on and awake there are lots of things he can do. Firstly by placing the baby in the palm of your hand and gently rocking, he will giggle. If you want to feed your baby, when you place the bottle in his mouth he gulps. If you want the baby to sleep, just lie him on his back. When you do he will sing a lullaby and then close eyes and go to sleep. Talking to your baby is a good one because if you say 'my sweet baby' to him he responds by saying 'haa!' The baby will also sing and dance by responding to different numbers of claps. We have tried all these out and generally the baby does actually do what he is supposed to. Just occasionally, things don't work but that could just be down to us not clapping hard enough or speaking loudly. You also have to be careful with your timing and not try to get the baby to do things too quickly in succession.
All of these things seem really very clever and my daughters are both totally enthralled by what it can do. They love all the singing and dancing and I have to admit that it does look very cute. Having said that though, after a while it can start to sound pretty annoying especially because even if you don't actively do anything with him he will keep on crying out periodically to let you know he is still there. This is why it is very important to know how to turn the baby off especially if your child has abandoned him and moved on to something else. It is very simple to turn him off though as you just continuously press on the hat for about four seconds and until you hear him singing his goodbye song!
There are six different micro babies that you can buy. Alongside the bath time baby the others include 'picnic baby' and 'beach baby'. I can't really see why they are called these names, and there definitely is not anything specific to the bath that comes with our bath time baby!
At the moment these are being sold in packs of two for £14.97 on Amazon with the option of getting another pack free. As these are so much fun, this does seem very good value for money.
Each baby has over 10 great features!
