Zapf Creation Baby Annabell
Advantages: Lots of realistic functions
Disadvantages: Quite pricey
My daughter was bought a Baby Annabell as a gift when she was 2.
Annabell is about 17 inches tall and measures about 14 inches around her tummy. Her arms, legs and head are made of fairly hard plastic. Her mid-section is made of stuffed material, which means she is a bit cuddly. Her arms and legs can all be moved independently, although they are not posable.
On Annabell's back there is a velcro fastening. When you open the velcro you find her battery pack (she takes 4 AAs) and her on/off switch.
This is where Annabell becomes really impressive. When you switch her on, she suddenly becomes alive. She will coo and gurgle, laugh and even turn her head towards you if you talk to her.
Annabell comes with her own feeding bottle. You fill the bottle with water and push it into the small circular hole in her mouth. She starts to make sucking noises and will even burp when she's finished.
Annabell's eyes have a full set of lashes and open and close according to what she is doing - she will often fall asleep whilst having her bottle.
By feeding Annabell you are filling up her water reserve on the inside. Every now and again she will cry and the water will come out from her eyes. It's very effective and really does look like she's crying real tears.
Annabell does not wee like some other dolls, although my daughter still takes great delight in changing her nappy!
Annabell comes with a dummy. When she cries you can put the dummy in her mouth to soothe her.
Annabell comes dressed in a white sleepsuit with a pink sheep on the front. She also has a matching white hat.
The Baby Annabell range is huge and you can buy just about every accessory you can think of for her - including prams, cots, clothing, cars - you name it, she's got it!
I love how realistic this doll is, the size is very similar to a newborn and even the weight balance is convincing - she feels like a real baby.
At around £30, this is a pricey doll. However, ours has been in regular use for 2 years now and is still going strong. The batteries last well as Annabell just goes to sleep when she's not being played with, so she's not losing power.
My daughter has had lots of fun with baby Annabell. She takes her for walks in the pram, puts her to bed, changes her nappy, feeds her in the high chair. It's all good, simple but imaginative fun.
If your child loves babies, this could be the doll to get them.
