My daughter received a My Little Baby Born doll for her second birthday, and it was her first "proper" doll - as opposed to a soft/ragdoll type. We chose the Baby Born over Baby Annabell and other similar sized dolls, for the simple fact that it had the nicest looking face (in our opinion).
The doll is aimed for children 12 months and over, and at 32cm is smaller than the standard size doll which makes it easier for little hands to hold. She comes in either a pink or lilac outfit (we have the lilac), which consists of a hat, top and trousers, which are all easy to remove and put back on. She also has a chubby shaped pink feeding bottle, which is also a good size for little hands. Both the bottle and her thumb fit into her mouth without being held, but otherwise she is a non-function doll.
One good thing about this doll over other similar first dolls on the market, is that she is bathable with a soft body made of quick dry material. It's unusual to find a doll you can bath without it being solid plastic. Younger children generally prefer soft bodied dolls as they're more cuddly, but still love the idea of taking them in the bath with them - so the fact you can with this doll is a real plus point.
The downside to the quick dry material of the dolls body, is that it's a silky nylon type of fabric. This may make it dry quickly, but it's also very slippery and therefore we've found her trousers fall down all the time! As a result, my daughter's dolly is usually either flashing her bottom or completely naked!
The only other minor downside is that the eyes are fixed, whereas most other dolls have eyes that close when you lay them down to "sleep". I presume open/close eyes wouldn't be waterproof though, which would prevent her being bathable. So it's understandable, but doesn't allow for more imaginative role-play.
Despite the slippery body and fixed eyes, I'd still recommend the My Little Baby Born doll as my daughter adores her regardless of my minor quibbles. The doll is also made to a high quality and she and her clothes still look perfect even after 18 months of daily play - I have to confess we have lost the bottle though.
The doll retails at around £14.99, which is a fair price for the quality.
My Little Baby Born Sucking Thumb is a lovely little baby doll which we have among many. Children are always carrying her around and she is definitely well looked after. She has many brothers and sisters of other brands but I prefer Zapf Creations Baby Born as it looks a lot more realistic and is not ugly looking like I think some others are.
Zaph Creations were established in Germany by Max and Rosa Zapf. Since 1932 it has made baby dolls which have become bestsellers around the world. Other than Baby Born it also created Baby Annabell and Baby Chou Chou.
This Baby Born has white skin but I believe you can get them with coloured skin as well. It is good to have a choice so not to be racist and should a child want a baby that would look like them, they can have the choice. Nowadays we are starting to see toys in white and coloured skin but although we live in a country with many races toys are still predominately white.
The doll is 27cm in height which is a nice size for children. Unlike some babies it doesn't have a hard body as other than the head, arms and legs it is soft. Despite this it can be washed which is needed if children are always playing with it and getting it mucky. She could also have a bath if children wanted.
As she has a soft body it makes it a lot easier to dress or undress the doll. I find that I am usually the one dressing the baby though as the children always take the clothes off and can never get them back on again. They are not hard to put on though, I think the children need more practice. Usually the babies end up with no clothes on at all!
The clothing that comes with the doll are trousers, a top and a hat. These are made from nice soft fabric and come in either pink or lilac. As previously mentioned, the clothes can be taken off the doll.
The baby has a cute face which has an open mouth. This allows the children to feed the baby with its bottle or put its finger in its mouth. The eyes on the doll are also open and this is how they stay, they cannot be shut. Lets hope she can sleep with her eyes open!
The bottle is provided and I always see children feeding the baby (she is well looked after). I think this is a very strange looking bottle though, especially the shape. The children don't mind though, as long as there happy it's fine. I'm sure the baby doesn't mind either, as long as it's getting fed.
This baby doll can be bought for £14.97 on both amazon and Tescos websites. This is great value for money considering the hours of fun it provides.
It is aimed at children aged two to three but many older children have fun with her as well. I say her but it could be a him, some boys wear pink.
Our children always have this baby with them and don't like to leave it behind.
Children love this baby and enjoy the role play and imagination involved when they are transformed into a mummy or daddy. The baby is well cared for and children love playing with it along with other items like baby beds, high chairs, push chairs etc. or just having someone to love and care for like parents do for them.
