When I recently bought a set of five travel sized Dr Hauschka products I was surprised to find this full sized deodorant had been included when my delivery arrived - bearing in mind that the price for the 50ml 'Deodorant Floral' is more than I paid for the entire set I think I did pretty well for my money! Now, I'm not a 'sweater' by any stretch of the imagination and can usually get away with simply dabbing a little talcum powder under my arms to keep me feeling fresh - I would NEVER pay Dr Hauschka prices for a deodorant, but as it was such a bargainous item I've been putting it through it's paces for the past couple of weeks.
Now, before I start the first thing I need to point out is that this is a deodorant and NOT an anti-perspirant - it'll mean you won't stink during the day but won't keep you dry. You need to bear this in mind obviously as using this product won't protect your clothes from sweat patches, or keep you feeling particularly fresh in times of sweatiness. An example of this was yesterday when I went to the gym, I've been using this Deodorant Floral (yep, silly name) exclusively for the past two weeks so slicked it on without thinking as I was getting ready for the gym - halfway through my exercising period I started feeling annoyingly 'damp' under my arms and suddenly remembered that I should have applied my stop-sweat-in-its-tracks Sure instead to keep me dry.
It smells lovely. When I first received it I had a brief glance through the pamphlet (yes, a user manual for a deodorant) I was pleased to see it was scented with jasmine and lilac, two of my favourite floral scents. Unfortunately these have been blended to within an inch of their life and it's hard to pick either out from the overall bouquet, it smells incredibly feminine and is strong enough to linger around me for a good while after application. To be honest it's maybe a bit too strong sometimes as it can interfere with perfume if you've gone for the subtle option that day, I used a particularly delicate Avon perfume (from the Ice Sheers range) recently and the scent of the deodorant obliterated it within minutes.
It's not just a nice fragrance, it really does help me to stay smelling and feeling fresh all day. Going back to the gym incident, I've just (kinda grossly) gone and sniffed the now dry 'sweaty patches' and rather than smelling of grottiness I can just smell a faint hint of the flowery deodorant. Obviously I showered immediately after I'd finished exercising so have no idea how I would have smelled if the sweat I'd built up (I hate the gym) had been allowed to stay on my skin for any length of time - I can say that on a day to day basis it's excellent in this respect and I've never felt 'whiffy' in the same way I never feel 'whiffy' when using Sure.
My underarms feel really healthy and moisturised since I started using this deodorant, which is presumably down to the variety of essential oils used in its creation. It has a lovely cooling feeling as I apply it and the ball rotates smoothly and never sticks to the side of the bottle, it dispenses the perfect amount of deodorant for each application and dries reasonably quickly - although this could never be classed as a 'quick dry' deodorant and you do need to leave it for a few minutes before dressing.
Overall, I'm highly impressed with Dr Hauschka's Deodorant Floral. I'm not sure I'd pay £13 a time for a deodorant when I'm equally happy with my £2.89 Sure, but I can see it becoming a here and there purchase. I love the smell, have been surprised and pleased by it's effectiveness as a deodorant and also think it works well as a moisturising product for the underarms. The longevity is also good, I apply once in the morning and then again when I freshen up at around 4pm - because it's not stopping you sweating you don't need to top it up throughout the day as the fragrance will still work its magic even if it feels like your deodorant has faded.
