“ Brand: Dr. Hauschka / Cleanser / Type: Body Wash / Subcategory: Cleanser / Suitable for: Body / What it does: Cleanses, Nourishes „
I like using Dr. Hauschka body wash as they are natural and smell great. The Blackthorn body wash comes in a white soft plastic tube that stands on its lid, the lid is a screw top and is easy to use and does not leak. The product packaging is very simple, with a blue band running around the tube with the name of the product on the front and instructions and ingredients on the back.
I bought the body wash from my local health food store for £10.25, for a 150ml tube. The body wash is suitable for the following skin types, oily, normal, dry, sensitive and mature. I have sensitive skin and the product has never given me any problems or irritation. The body wash does not contain any soap, so it does not lather up a great deal, but it still washes and cleanses effectively. The body wash contains the following ingredients:
Water/Aqua, Coco-Glucoside, Glycerin, Sodium Coco-Glucoside Tartrate, Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Laurate, Prunus Spinosa Fruit Extract, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Extract, Lysolecithin, Capryloyl Glycine, Fragrance/Parfum, Limonene, Linalool, Citral, Eugenol, Geraniol, Cyamopsis Tetragonoloba (Guar) Gum, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Chondrus Crispus (Carrageenan) Extract, Plant Alcohol, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein
Xanthan Gum, Sucrose Laurate, Propolis Wax
To use the product I squeeze a generous amount of the body wash onto a shower puff and then clean my body, I find that as the ingredients are natural and plant derived that the body wash does not lather up as much as other body washes and at first I would use too much product trying to get a good lather going.
The scent of blackthorn is fairly strong and citrussy and it definitely perks me up in the morning. I find that the body wash feels creamy, in consistency, it is opaque in colour with a slight shimmer. It leaves my skin feeling soft and well cleansed and my skin does not feel tight after use. I still use a body moisturiser after use, more out of habit that necessity, but I think with regular use I would be able to use it every other day. The scent lingers on my skin for a while after use, which is nice as the smell keeps me feeling fresh.
Overall I would recommend this product to others as it smells great, leaves my skin feeling soft and clean, and perks me up in the morning. The only downside to the product is that it is expensive, therefore I give the body wash 4 Dooyoo stars.

As one of my best friends works in a local salon I manage to acquire quite a few of her sample products for very low prices... obviously that's not the only reason I'm friends with her but it certainly keeps her close to the top of my Christmas card list every year. I tend to get one or two products each month from her, normally half used as she's had a sample of them as well, but I'm not complaining when they're far above the prices I'd normally pay. A couple of weeks ago she gave me a brand new tube of Dr Hauschka's Blackthorn Body Wash, apparently they'd had five samples in of this but as it's a body wash people don't tend to test them out in the salon for obvious reasons, so they weren't bothering to put any samples out except for one to be used as a scent tester. It's the first time this year I've been given a brand new product from my friend so I was quite excited to test it out myself... I had to do it quick before my boyfriend tried it out as well!
Dr Hauschka is a brand name I hadn't heard of before my friend gave me a half used sample of some face cream last year. The brand is based on a rather unique principle, it extends the standard understanding that underlies body care and modern medicine and is most favoured by similar brands, which is to look at the body, soul and spirit as being connected. They use plants and herbs to balance and harmonise the body, soul and spirit so the three are at one which the others in a sense. They view disease and blemishes as coming from an imbalance in the life processes or an imbalance between the body, soul and spirit. To be honest this all sounds a little far fetched for me to actually take seriously but it's the sort of stuff that celebrities thrive on and, as such, you can see why this brand has become so popular. It was founded back in 1935 and prides itself on using raw ingredients in an environmentally friendly way, another thing that makes it a firm favourite with celebrities. The brand itself offers a range of face care products and body care products. The range is certainly priced at the higher end of the market, with a body moisturiser costing around the £25 mark, a face powder costing around £22 and a facial cleanser costing around the £20 mark in general.
The Blackthorn Body Wash product itself comes in a white tube which sits upright on a circular lid. The tube itself is quite plain in terms of colour apart from a dark blue band that runs around the middle of it. It has that sort of minimalist glamour to it in that you can tell it's not a cheap product despite not looking overly fancy. It's advertised on the tube as gently cleaning and refreshing skin whilst being suitable for oily, normal, dry, sensitive and mature skin. When I first opened the tube I was amazed by the delicious scent, blackthorn isn't really something that I've ever associated with showering and it's not a scent that I was familiar with or had even heard of before this product either. It's got quite a strong citrus smell to it which surprised me and made it smell really fresh, the lemon and grapefruit scents come out the clearest I think. It contains witch hazel which revitalises and tones the skin as well as shea butter which moisturises the skin and leaves it supple. It's also advertised as soap free which may suit people with sensitive skin.
This body wash prides itself on using gentle surfactants which apparently are cleansers that allow the water and oil to mix, according to my friend this means they emulsify and remove any dirt or impurities from the skin. When she told me this I thought that might mean that this body wash didn't lather up at all as that's what I tend to associate with cleansers, and I was right really. It's advertised as producing a light, creamy lather but in my opinion it was so light that I could hardly see it! The creamy white body wash comes out of the tube easily enough but as you rub it between your hands it feels very much like a thin body cream that sadly doesn't lather up despite vigorous scrubbing! This is the one negative of the product in my opinion.
Overall this product has a delicious scent to it and leaves my skin feeling soft and smooth after use. It really energises me when I use it, the citrus scent is so fresh that it's quite uplifting, especially in the mornings. With regards to the rest of the range it's actually quite inexpensive and I personally don't mind spending a little bit more for a decent shower gel. On the Dr Hauschka website the Blackthorn Body Wash is priced at £9.95 for a 150ml tube although I have seen it slightly cheaper than this on Amazon. I know my friend's salon currently sells it for £10.95 a tube so it's worth buying it online rather than from a salon if the postage is free. However the downside is that there is relatively little (if any) lather which often leaves me feeling a bit unsatisfied after a shower... I'm a bubbles kind of girl and this just left those bubbles deflated!
