The Dr. Hauschka Jojoba and Marsh Mallow Conditioner was apart of the gift basket my grand parents got me for Christmas and it's only recently that I've finally got around to using it. I researched the price and to my delight it is much cheaper than the other Dr. Hauschka products I was presented with however it does still retail at just under £18 and for a conditioner the majority of people will still think this is a lot just for a conditioner and of course for best results you need to use this with the Shampoo. I think the price is fairer than the other products because after all it is made with natural and fair trade ingredients which is why it is so pricey although I wouldn't buy this off my own back because of the price.
The packaging is very plain but I like that about products, it reminds me of neutral freshness and clean-ness. This has a pump action lid which is helpful, it means there's controlled amounts so you don't use too much of it however the consistency wasn't what you'd expect from a conditioner it was quite watery and I've never known a conditioner to be like that before although in my hand it still felt creamy and rich.
Applying this I usually lather my hair more than I need to and leave it on my hair for around 10 - 15 minutes before washing it off, This spread really easily and coated my hair in no time and I hardly used any, I suspect this is down to the watery consistency although my hair felt and creamy and lathered as it would a normal conditioner. This has an odd scent and one I can'tactually describe, it just smells of freshness and reminds me of spring nature.
This contains Jojoba and Macadamia which they claim is to help de-tangle your hair - I don't have a problem with knotty hair but I can see why this would be a plus for a lot of people I know which long hair that tangles up easily however I can't really comment on if it works or not because this doesn't happen to me. It also contains Marsh Mallow, Oak and Nettle, Dr.hauschka claim that this strengthens the scalp, I can only assume that this would stop your hair from snapping at the roots so easily and again I don't have this problem however I do have hair fall out sometimes and I must admit that this has decreased massively since using this. Lastly it contains Wheat and Milk proteins which give the hair volume and protection from heat damaging items such as straighteners. I have noticed when I blow dried my hair after using this range it was mega bouncy and was just wild and fluffy so the wheat and milk definitely did it's job correctly.
I wouldn't go out my way to buy this product although I don't stick my nose up at it because it is a brilliant conditioner which not only has softening affects it has repairing properties as well which to people who has very bad hair it might be worth them actually paying that much extra to get their hair sorted out. However I can't say this conditioner is amazing just because it made my hair more poofy than before.
I don't usually spend a lot of money on my haircare and rely mostly of cheaper shampoos and conditioners. I tend to think that my hair is generally good quality anyway so why bother spending extra? I was given this Dr. Hauschka conditioner as a gift and was quite excited to see how it would work on my hair.
The bottle is perfectly fine - like a lot of the products from this brand I can't help but feel that they are a little dated looking. I can't pinpoint exactly what it is I just don't find them particularly exciting in design and nor do they instantly scream quality the way other brands do. That said, as long as the bottle is functional I am not overly bothered about the design. The product is more important overall so the bottle for this product didn't put me off.
The conditioner itself is made from natural ingredients which I love. I think it is really important to try to source products which contain as few chemicals as possible, they tend to be way better for your body/face/hair and kinder to the environment. This product also smells incredible! I had to stop myself from drinking the entire bottle the first time I sniffed it, and it does leave the same lovely scent in your hair throughout the day.
So the big disappointment was the product itself I'm afraid. In an expensive conditioner I would expect it to be ultra thick and creamy with a rich consistency and great shine effect on your hair. This product has NONE of those things. It has a very strange watery consistency which is really off putting. It didn't stop me from using it entirely as I thought it might have hidden shine power. It is ok to apply to your hair but because of the lacklustre consistency it tends to have a bit of difficulty sticking to your hair and is very easy to drop/slip away which at the price is annoying.
The biggest disappointment by far has to be the effect it has on your hair which ranges from none at all to negative. It does not make your hair feel luscious and shiny - in fact it gave mine a straw like feeling I only get with very poor shampoos and conditioners. Ultimately it made me feel like I had not used a conditioner at all, which I almost wished I hadn't.
In terms of price this product retails at around £18 for 250ml. Obviously that price is ridiculous, in fact giving it away for free would still be too great a cost for me.
My advice? I would avoid this product, at the very least it will do nothing for your hair and at the other end of the scale it will make it feel worse than before you started.
