I always receive a tonne of gorgeous fragranced gifts at Christmas, and this year was no exception. One of the gifts that I received was this Dr Hauschka Lavender Sandalwood Body Moisturiser. Dr. Hauschka is a German brand. The range is not tested on animals and is made from all natural ingredients. It's a very expensive skin care range, and it doesn't seem to be very readily available here in the UK. I know that John Lewis do sell Dr Hauschka products, and a quick look online tells me that the Lavender Sandalwood Body Moisturiser costs £24. The Lavender Sandalwood body moisturiser comes beautifully packaged in a glass bottle, with a gold coloured pump dispenser on the top. It's a 145ml bottle. The bottle looks very sleek and classy and looks lovely out on display either on my dressing table or on my bathroom shelf. Now unfortunately I'm a bit clumsy and so glass bottles and me don't really mix; I've dropped and smashed two glass cosmetics bottles recently. So although the glass bottle does look very sleek and classy and beautiful out on display, and it definitely looks like a premium expensive body moisturiser (which it is!), I have to say that I think that I'd prefer it if it came in a plastic bottle as it does give me the heebie jeebies every time I use it in case I break it as it was so expensive! I do really like the pump dispenser aspect on the bottle, this ensures that I don't get the bottle covered in sticky fingerprints as just a gentle depress on the top of the pump will dispense the moisturiser out of the bottle, this also means that there's probably less chance that I'm going to drop and break this as I don't actually have to pick it up to use it! The pump dispenser will turn and 'lock' again if I want to take the bottle away on holiday. I'm probably best not doing this though! The scent of this body moisturiser is absolutely divine, I can smell the comforting and relaxing lavender, and also the warm and woodsy sandalwood. The gorgeous fragrance lingers on my skin for most of the day after I've applied this body moisturiser, but it only lingers subtly on my skin, it doesn't take over and clash with any other body products that I've used. Again it will linger on my skin overnight if I've applied it before bed and I find that I can still smell it in the morning, and that my sheets will have a very subtle lingering scent of lavender and sandalwood too. I do prefer to use this before bed as I find that it's quite a relaxing and comforting warm fragrance, and so it's the perfect fragrance to wind down and fall asleep with. The body moisturiser itself has the consistency of a very thick body milk, and it is very easily and quickly absorbed into my skin. This just seems to glide easily over my skin and it melts in completely, it leaves my skin feeling lovely and smooth, and soft and silky to the touch, and my skin stays lovely and soft all day after using this. This doesn't feel sticky or greasy at all, and it doesn't leave behind any sticky, greasy or oily residue at all, all of the moisturiser is absorbed completely into my skin. I find that I don't need to use much of this body moisturiser at all as a little really does go a long way. This is a very luxurious and intensely moisturising lotion and it's perfect for my winter parched skin. It isn't actually too rich though, so I'd also imagine that it'd work just as well in the summer time. This is suitable for all skin types; oily, normal, dry, sensitive and mature. My skin is more or less normal, and maybe just ever so slightly on the dry side, and this is perfect for my skin. This is a really luxurious body moisturiser, and I really love it. It's definitely something that I would repurchase as a treat for myself, or as a gift for someone - I say as a treat as it is very expensive at £24 for just 145ml of product. I'm slightly hesitant to give it 5 stars due to the high price, I'd probably give 4.5 if I could, as I'd knock a half a star off for the high price.
I have previously said that my Mother in Law introduced me to Dr Hauschka products, but this one I found myself in my local health food store. I purchased the product for £23.25 for a 145ml bottle, so it's not cheap. The moisturiser is suitable for all skin types and comes in a glass bottle with a gold pump action lid that is easy to use and does not clog. Dr.Hauschka is the brand name for the skin care range made by WALA Heilmittel GmbH, and Elysia is the UK distributor of Dr.Hauschka. WALA is a very special company indeed, with the job of supporting people through Anthroposophical medicine and a special ownership structure called a 'Stiftung' that is like a Foundation Anthroposophical medicine is a system of medicine that was developed by Rudolf Steiner and Ita Wegman in the 1920s. It extends the standard anatomical understanding that underlies modern medicine with a classification of the life processes that occur in us: body, soul and spirit. By understanding the growth and formative processes that flow through our physical bodies it is possible to gain a complete and holistic picture of the human being. I like the fact that Dr Hauschka products are natural and that a lot of effort and thought have gone into developing the range of products. This is obviously reflected in the price, but as the products I have tried deliver their intended effects, I do not mind paying a bit extra for them, plus as they are natural I feel that they are probably better for my skin, though as a beauty junky I will pretty much give any product a go!. The moisturiser seeks to provide you with a soothing and balanced effect, by relaxing you, replenishing moisture and thus leaving your skin feeling smooth and soft. The moisturiser contains the following ingredients: Spring Water (Aqua), Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Plant Alcohol , Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, Glycerin, Pyrus Cydonia Seed Extract, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Anthyllis Vulneraria Extract, Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil, Equisetum Arvense Extract, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Glyceryl Stearate Citrate, Fragrance (Parfum), Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Linalool, Citronellol, Geraniol, Limonene ,Farnesol, Benzyl Benzoate, Eugenol, Benzyl Salicylate, Coumarin Citral, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, Hectorite, Cetyl Alcohol, Sucrose Stearate, Sucrose Distearate, Chondrus Crispus (Carrageenan) Extract, Xanthan Gum To use the moisturizer I apply it to dry skin after having a bath or a shower. The cream is off white in colour and thin in consistency, so at first I thought that it would not do much good, but it sinks in well to my skin and leaves it feeling soft and well nourished. I have sensitive skin and I have never experience any irritation whilst using the product. The moisturizer is calming as it smells of lavender, and you get a warming note of Sandalwood, you can also smell lemon and a slightly nutty scent which I think must be the avocado and macadamia. As I said it sinks in well and leaves my skin soft and smelling great, the scent is not over powering and tends to linger for a good while after, I do not use perfume everyday if I am using a scented body lotion as it just destroys or conflicts with the many scents I accumulate whilst getting ready in the morning. Overall I would recommend this product to others as it leaves my skin feeling soft and supply, it blends in well and smells great, the only downside is the fact that it is expensive, but you do not need a lot of the product to cover your body due to its consistency.
