Advantages: Smells wonderful, moisturises the skin, lovely to use
Disadvantages: At full price is nears £40
I have never used any Dr Hauschka products before, it wasn't until I had read some reviews here on Dooyoo that I had really heard of the brand. Now I see the products advertised everywhere, even in the Health Food shop near where I live. So with everyone saying how fantastic the products are, including some friends of mine, I decided to try some of them out.
Thankfully I didn't have to pay the full retail price of £36.95 for this moisturising mask which for only 30ml is a bit steep, even for me. Instead I was able to the trial sized version for £5.95 from the Health shop when I purchased a few other items I fancied trying which were on offer. This mask is marketed as being "richly nourishing for extremely dry, sensitive, sun damaged skin", in this weather I have little or no chance of having sun damaged skin but it was dry and is sensitive.
The Dr Hauscka brand has a history which spans over 70 years, something I didn't know until I read up about them. They are proud of their organic heritage and tend to use only 100% natural and fairtrade ingredients. Their website is packed full of information that I simply cannot cram into this review, so feel free to check it out. Their products which can be bought either online or from local Health shops like the one I bought from and on their website is a 'store locater' option so that you can locate your nearest outlet selling these products. These products are quite noticeable from their packaging. This particular tube is bright white in colour and at the bottom has an orange band around it, something which is featured on all the Dr Hauschka products be it an eye cream face mask or a bath and body oil.
The product I purchased is the Moisturising mask because it is designed for use on very dry sensitivie skin which is exactly how I would describe the skin on my face. Even though I cleanse, exfoliate and mositurise regularly, I still find I have dry skin on my cheeks and on my forehead and rather than buy an abrasive exfoliator which could scratch my skin, I was advised to try a moistusing mask after exfoliating. The reason why I wanted to try this product is that you are told you use it everyday, more like a cream than a mask, for 6 weeks which allows your skin to have complete coverage during what is called its 'natural cycle', this effectively means the time it takes to shred your skin. Then after you have completed this cycle you can continue to use it once or twice a week and then as and when you need too.
With any product I am fascinated and usually tempted to buy something based on its fragrance and this partiuclar mask smells wonderful. Firstly there is sweet almond oil, an aroma which I really like and it is used because it is a great moisturiser and also helps the skin to absorb moisture. Avocado Oil which is high in Vitamin E content which in turn helps to protect and repair your skin. Olive Oil is also used and that too absorbs into the skin and acts as a moisturiser and is especially useful for those people with really dry skin. Shea Butter is also used and this is one of my favourite moisturising products because it really does help to leave your skin feeling soft and smooth and finally there is Quince extract, something I have never seen used before, but it is used in Dr Hausckha products and it helps to restore moisture to your skin and hydrates it. There are a few more ingredients which you can find written on the back of the tube or online.
So knowing what was in it and knowing it was safe to on my skin, I didn't hesitate in trying it. As my skin wasn't described as being severely dry, just dry, I was told to take the trial sized tube home and use it as a mask. So I cleaned and toned my face to ensure I had removed any dirt, grime and other mucky stuff from my face and that the pores on my face were open. I applied the product to my face liberally and then left it for 20 minutes whilst I laid in the bath reading. Once those 20 minutes were up, I removed excess cream from my face using a soft flannel like cloth that I use for this purpose. After using this mask my face was so soft and smooth and I hadnt felt my skin feel like this for years and any sight or sign fo dry skin had completely evaporated.
So naturally I have become quite a fan of this product and once my second trial sized tube runs out, unless I can find something I like more, I am more than tempted to purchase a 30ml tube, which if used as directed would last 2-3months, but I would wait until it is on offer because I am not sure my bank manager would be too impressed that I want to spend close to £40 on a face mask. It is however wonderful and I recommend trying it, even just a trial size tube.
Summary: Get soft smooth skin, in a tube!
