When I got my tube of Rose Body Moisturiser out of the tin of Dr Hauschka samples to sit and write about it, my first instinct was the check the use by date on the tube because I struggled to believe that it hadn’t gone ‘off’. According to the use by date stamped on the crimped end of the tube, I have another three months before it will be past its best. I can only imagine how bad it would be if I’d left it another year before getting round to writing.
I expected a milk-like consistency. Why? Because in French it’s ‘lait pour le corps rose’ - i.e. rose milk for the body ‘ and in German it’s ‘Bodymilk Rozen’ - or rose body milk. So imagine my surprise that it came out of the tube as quite a thick cream. Imagine also my surprise that it looked a dull sludgy beige in colour. I squirted out a little more to see if it was just an ‘end of tube’ effect - something quite typical with metal tubes - and it did get better further through the tube.
It thins out with a bit of rubbing and I found it relatively easy to rub in the cream although it did leave my skin tacky for another half hour after applying.
I love rose scents but if it didn’t say ‘rose’ on the tube, I’m not convinced that I could have identified this rather dull and slightly ‘off’ scent as being rose-based. Surprisingly Rosa Damascena flower extract is the second biggest ingredient in this product after water and before sweet almond oil. There’s even a fair dose of shea butter so it ought to be a decent cream. The rose elements of the ingredients list include the aforementioned Rosa Damascena flower extract, Rosa Canina fruit extract, Rosa Damascena flower wax and Rosa Damascena flower oil. So the question remains, why doesn’t it smell a lot more clean and rosy than it does?
My conclusion would be that a product like this that’s supposed to be organic probably just isn’t stable enough to be sold with such a long best before date. I bought this kit at the end of 2013 so at the time it was sold, it was giving an unrealistically long shelf life, especially considering the tiny metal tubes it was enclosed in.
This product is normally sold in a bottle which might be more stable than the tubes. A small 10 ml tube like mine is available for £3 but the full size - a not very generous 145ml bottle - would cost you £24.00. There are many companies using similar natural claims that don’t charge such shocking prices for such poor creams.
WHAT IS IT?
A rose scented body moisturiser by Dr. Hauschka.
IS IT ANY GOOD?
I love this body moisturiser and it's one of a very few Dr. Hauschka products that lives up to its price tag. It smells beautiful like fresh cut roses and this fragrance is strong enough to linger on my skin long enough that I don't always need to apply my perfume immediately before I go out. It doesn't smell very synthetic like a lot of rose products and is quite a fresh fragrance.
It's a rich feeling cream but absorbs quickly into my skin with no greasy residue. It's an intense moisturiser and I proved this to myself by applying it to my dry elbows, it took only two applications to sort out this dry skin and with regular use the moisturiser has kept the dryness away while at the same time providing intense moisture to the rest of my body skin.
After using morning and night for three weeks I can feel my skin is smoother and softer, any problematic patches are solved very quickly and the texture makes this a beautiful body moisturiser to use. I don't like the pump action dispenser and would rather see this sold in bottles or even tubes, sometimes the pump on my bottle doesn't go down properly and then I have to wait for a few minutes before trying again. I think I've probably got a faulty bottle but I don't like the cheap tacky gold design of the pump anyway and don't think it does justice to the lovely product.
5 Dooyoo Stars.
I went on a little spending spree at once with Dr. Hauschka products and bought a few of the Rose ones, purely because I love the fresh smell of flowers. This moisturiser is for normal, dry and sensitive skin so anyone can pretty much use this. On my body I have just normal skin so this is fine for me, the Rose petal extracts strengthens your skin helping it to repair itself, it is supposed to leave you with luxurious soft and supple skin. This is supposed to sooth sensitive skin and strengthen.
The smell of this is very refreshing as it smells of Rose and spring flowers which is lovely in the winter as it's less depressing in my view. I use this once a day after a bath or shower but I also apply before bed to my knees, elbows and any other places that tend to get a little rough and dry.
this isn't really thick but isn't runny either you only need to apply a thin layer on your body so you only need a little bit as this does go far which is good because of the price! This took a few minutes to completely dry all over my body so walking to my bed room and finding some clothes was enough time for the moisturiser to dry. From the first application my skin was instantly smooth, I have a rough side on both my legs for some reason where I have to apply lots of moisturiser, the little bit that I put on here was enough to make it as soft as the rest of my body which I was very pleased about, I have been using this for around 2 weeks now and I'm not going to stop, the price is just under £20 and you can buy from the official dr.hauschka website.

This is a rich but non greasy body lotion with a lovely rose fragrance, which leaves your skin feeling moisturised and protected. It contains rose petal extract, sweet almond and jojoba oils and is very good for when your skin is feeling dry and sensitive in the winter. It would go well with their Floral Body Wash. Check out the excellent Dr Haushka website which lists each product's ingredients and offers advice on the best way to use the products.
