My Dr Hauschka body care set included two oils - the rose and the lemongrass. As the vials are very small at only 10 ml each, I had to think carefully about how to use my oil. 10 ml is not enough to really apply to much of your body as a massage oil so I ruled that out. I wasn't sure whether it would be safe to use on my face, so I decided to avoid that to.
Yesterday I had been out helping my sister on her canal boat with some seriously heavy lock gates and had really strained my shoulder muscles and my buttocks so I wanted a long soaky bath and decided to spoil myself and use the rose oil.
As an aside, when I told my sister I had 'buttock ache' from heaving on the locks, she got excited and asked where it was and if she could have some. She thought I said 'butter cake'. Shame.
I ran a hot bath and poured almost exactly half of my tube of rose oil under the hot tap. I was pleased to see that it dispersed really well to leave a fine film of microdroplets on the surface. It didn't fill the bathroom with rosy vapours but at only 5ml I probably shouldn't have expected it to. However, once I got into the bath, the delicate, sweet rosy vapours were a real delight.
I enjoyed my bath and my skin was left with a very fine oil layer and I skipped a body lotion to enjoy the oil fully. It didn't make a slimy mess of my bath either so I was happy with that too.
I've been pretty scathing of most of the Dr Hauschka products I've tried with the rose products coming in for more abuse than some of the others but this was very pleasant and I look forward to using the rest of it and to trying the lemongrass. 75 ml of this would cost you 20.50 which is a lot. However, if you can get 15 good baths out of it, it's not the most expensive of treats. I do suspect though that it wouldn't be hard to find alternative rose oils at better prices.
As I have probably mentioned before, my daughters aunt works in the nutri-centre in central london, which advocates lots of high quality (and expensive!) Skin care products, many from the Dr Hauschka range. Anyway one of the free products she gave me was a 10ml vial of Rose Body oil for me to try.
*** What it does ***
Made from a precious extracf of damask roses, exquisite natural rose essential oil and moisiture preserving jojoba oil it works to cnourish and protect while helping to relieve nervous tension and emotional exhaustio (oh don't I feel this way sometimes!)
*** Application ***
Gently massage onto moist skin after showering or bathing to seal in moisture and prevent dryness. Also an ideal choice for a baby's delicate skin.
*** My Opinion ***
I do quite like this oil and it has worked well on my skin. It is quite a thick liquid, with a dark yellow/green tinge which reminds me of the appearance of grapeseed oil; an oil predominantly used in aromatherapy. As it is extremely oily and thick not much is actually needed to moisturise the skin hence why i managed to make a small 10ml vial last 3 weeks! Honestly, a few drops is more than enough for an arm or a leg.
The oil is quite thick, but absorbs into my skin beautifully! My skin looks and feels well nourished and hydrated afterwards, and although I do not suffer from particularly dry skin I feel it has kept my skin feeking moisturised and well nourished longer than any other body cream or lotion I have ever used!
From pregnancy I have been cursed with hideous stretch marks on my tummy and the main place I apply this Rose body oil is here (oh yes I'll try anything I can get my hands on to get rid of these things!) And although it hasnt gotten rid of them at all, I have found that it has slightly helped reduce the appearance of them which is a good thing!
One weird thing about this oil is the smell. I can't put my finger on it but it sure DOES NOT smell like roses! It does indeed have a slight musky smell, and almost a subtle mixture of lavender and oranges??? Maybe i'm going mad but its definitely not a smell I find particularly appealing!
In terms of relieving nervous tension and emotional exhaustion I cannot back this claim 100%....I had severe backache for a few days so asked my partner to massage my lower back using this oil and I can confess it felt a lot better! Whether or not this is solely down to this oil I cannot say, as I may have felt better having been massaged with even baby oil as I put it more down to technique rather than the oil being the cure.
Overall, I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a good body oil, to leave their skin soft and amazing. Comes in quite pricey, around £20 for 75ml bottle! So I will try to savour what's left of my vial for now and hopefully get someone to treat me for my near approaching birthday :)
Harmonizes & Calms / This pampering oil harmonises the skin and senses, and is ideal for baby massage.
